Does anyone have pics of the rear of the Panasonic VIERA TC-L55DT50? I'm trying to find out where the HDMI outputs are located. Owner's manual is still not available anywhere.

they are on right hand side, come out of the side. Dvi port on bottom.

By right hand side, I mean if you're looking at the back of the tv.

Reason I ask, I have HDMI cables behind my wall (routed via PVC pipe) and are only 10 foot long. Problem is, the end of the HDMI cable is too short to fit properly on the right side of the rear of the tv. This why I hate the location of the HDMI inputs behind the tv. I have a Panasonic 50inch plasma that sits on top of my fireplace and there's plenty of space to move it further back or forward. I'm using a port saver adapter right now on my plasma, but I had to shove the tv further back for the HDMI cable to reach. If I upgrade to the 55inch DT50, that means I have to shove it EVEN further back, which is what i'm tring to avoid. My question is; Would you recommend a Monoprice High Speed Male to Female HDMI Port Saver or the regular HDMI port saver adapter? I read somewhere that the High Speed Male to Female HDMI Port saver adaptor, which is 8 inches long, gives you problems with video quality. Anyone recommend one over the other?

Has anyone heard updated information on release dates for the 55' WT50/DT50s?

I'm in the market for a new LED for the new living room and both of these look promising. I'm really hoping they won't be pushed back to May or June or the wife might kill me!

Well, none of the ports face the wall, they all face outward, some face down, some face to the side. I'm not sure if that helps you or not, really, but there you go.

The last I heard was end of May or beginning of June for the "55`s , I think the DT will be out first , then the WT.

U need to get the WT , trust me

I`m still undecided between the WT50 ( 47" ) or the LG 9600 ( 46" ) .

I had a fair demo of passive and I was happy , in a few weeks I will get a demo with active , then I will know.

The only reason I mention the WT as opposed to the DT is the former has more picture enhancements and I think the WT also has a faster processor for better multi-tasking.

Both are top notch tv`s , best of luck to ya`

The WT50 Owners Manual can be downloaded @ :

Just type in the model # and check the box.

You can view within your browser or download.

Mac users press "option" key then click link , to download ( or view within Safari ).

PC users , I`m not sure , sorry.

Well , I`m looking at LED and not even thinking about Plasma.

However , Panny does make a very good plasma tv , my sisters has one a few years old and it does have a very nice picture.

I know they ( plasma`s as a whole ) have improved since I had the old Sony XS , but I still don`t trust them as far as burn in.
Some will say it is not an issue anymore , but for me , it`s still there and why take a chance.

With LCD you don`t have that issue.

If you just want a great picture with really good blacks , then plasma may be the way to go.

But if you plan on using a computer with it or any static images , I would have to say the WT would be the best way to go.

I have a Mac-Mini hooked up to my XBR-2 and I can tell you unless they have found a way to change the font`s , web surfing is better on a notebook or table top computer.

As far as internet apps , I`m sure they are good , but you still need processing power for any real internet stuff.

Just something else to think about !!

I just received my Panasonic Viera TC-L47ET5 yesterday and it comes with 4 pairs of passive glasses. The picture quality is amazing! I'm still digging around and figuring things out at the moment.

For passive glasses, LG has a starter 6pk available on Amazon.com that includes an adult male pair with a black metal frame, an adult female frame in clear plastic, 2 pairs of black flip-up clip-on's for people like me who wear prescription glasses, and two pairs of children's glasses with clear plastic frames and stretch bands across the back to keep them on squirmy kids heads. All of that for less than $32 shipped if you choose Huppins as the seller (Make sure that you choose the listing with Prime shipping!). The clip-on's alone sell for approximately $19 each, so this is an incredible bargain on passive 3D glasses!

The best part of it is that if you do wear prescription glasses, you can wear the clip-on when you go to the movie theatre, and no longer have to deal with the Hell of wearing a pair of bulky 3D glasses overtop your prescription glasses. Last night at home was the very first time that I actually truly enjoyed watching a movie in 3D without having to either be uncomfortable, continuously adjust the 3D glasses, or have to see parts of the screen in non-3D because the 3D glasses shifted on my prescription lenses. It was wonderful!

Thanks for the info , "Wineaux2" , I`m glad you found a great price and are happy with your choice.

Please tell me , how was the picture setting in the custom mode right out of the box ?

Do you feel you needed or need to adjust it ?

May sound like a dumb question but my old XBR-2 LCD was perfect put of the box using the custom setting. All I had to do was change the backlighting from 10 to 7.
Even after almost 5 yr.`s it is still a good set , I`m giving it to my dad so he can finally get HD !!

That is good info on the passive glasses , I did demo last years Toshiba 515 series , and thought the 3D was A-OK !!

One last question , how is the sound ?

I know you must have an HT , but I`m asking because I don`t fire-up my old DSP-A1 just to watch the Weather Ch. or CNN !!

Just received this e-mail from Panasonic in reference to the inclusion of 3D Glasses for the WT series , NO Glasses are included , not a deal breaker , but should come with atleast 2 pair...IMO. Copy & Paste of e-mail reply:

I am looking to upgrade from the 5 yr old 40" samsung LN series LCD...I am leaning towards Panasonic and the ET5 series right now...wonder when the prices will come down a bit on the 55"

Also how do Panasonic LED TVs compare to 2012 Samsung LED TVs, I wonder...in terms of PQ and durability...I like the Samsung we have ok but we're going to need to upgrade to a 47" or a 55"-ish size soon...and this time I want to try Panasonic's line.
We're highly impressed with the blu ray player we have from Panny (BD65)...

After several frustrating exchanges with Panasonic support, they sent me confirmation that the E5 series has a full LED backlight, and is not Edge lit. I'm sorry if this was common knowledge, but I hadn't seen it before.

Pretty sure none of them are full-array. I recall reading a post from AVJunkie on HDJ around CES time saying that all their stuff was going to be edge-lit. I don't know how thick the E5 is but if it is thick then there's a chance that it could be direct-LED since it's a cheaper model, but this differs from high-end full-array. (See: Samsung EH4/5/6000).

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone has found out any new information about the ET5 series passive 3d tv's?

I was curious on whether or not if the ET5 3d tv's use edge-lit local dimming, also if anyone has found out what contrast levels for the series are yet and last if anyone knows if the ET5 supports passive 3d in PC mode as well?

Hi Folks,

I am very confused now... after reading the initial reviews and news about the WT50, i am pretty sure i read comments that they are Full array local dimming with 16 zones. I am no expert but i will assume that they are LED Backlit TVs and NOT EDGE-LIT TVs. Maybe the ET/DT could be edge-lit but i am sure I havent read WT being EL...

Can someone correct me if i am wrong!!! These look promising but after reading the drawbacks of EDGE-LIT, i dont want to go that route... $2999 for WT50 willl buy me a Panny VT50 and some more goodies..

when I said "THEY" are edge-lit, I meant the ET5 series. (in response to Forrest Gump's question)

Idk about the WT and DT.
However, someone recently posted a list of 2012 full LED TVs, and I am PRETTY sure Panasonic was NOT on that list.
