I purchased one of their D30 models last year, and it's a terrific set for gaming. 120hz and it has 30ms of lag. Very good compared to most tvs on the market today. The tv also had a beautiful design, and very good sound. The D30 was edge lit and clouding was very minimal on my 42 inch set. Very faint clouding in the bottom right corner.

I'm looking for a 42" E5 but it doesn't seem to be in many stores. I've only seen it at Amazon. Any reports of other stores with this model?

I asked Panasonic a few weeks ago if it included glasses , and was told " no glasses are included".

That was a few weeks ago , maybe it has changed.

both reviews were good reads (WT and DT) I chose the DT50 because I actually liked the metal bezel and felt the extra $$ didn't really get me much.

So... in a nutshell, that review said that the WT is certainly NOT worth the extra money and actually the DT looks better physically and looks classier, plus better PQ even?
Interesting. Glad to to see that one can get the same pic quality with the DT without paying all that for the WT
I generally love it when the 2nd or 3rd product actually beats the flagship model in a line

Definitely not a very good review for their top of the line LCD. The black levels are poor to say the least, the stand is plastic and the overall build quality seems questionable. Why is there such discrepancies with the review put forth by HDGuru who basically called this set a reference panel?

True , after reading that review , it may seem that the DT50 is the best bang for for buck and may very well be.

But if you want all the picture enhancements that Panasonic has to offer then the WT50 is your only choice.

I did find it strange to read that the build quality seemed better on the DT50 than the WT50. O__well , I still must see one or at least read read more reviews.

I really can`t make any kind of judgement until I start reading US reviews from people that have bought them.

The flat panel shootout coming up in May will tell the story. Once Kevin Miller and Dnice get their hands on these panels as well as others, we will know more than what we need to. Maybe it's possible that the EU panels are driven differently because the software algorithms are tweaked all together different. Different voltage? Energy saving standards? Who knows? But I was expecting a much better showing.

Are the Panasonic DT50 and WT50 LED TVs using LG IPS panels for 2012?

Yes, I agree. Isn't it strange that Panasonic's entry and middle level models are arguably better buy's than their top of the line? The ST50 is testing remarkably well for their Plasma's and their E and DT series are better bang for the buck in their LCD panels.

Several user reviews on Amazon have referenced that recommended calibration settings for the E5 series are available on these AVS forums, but my searches have come up empty every time. Is there a thread other than this one floating around somewhere?

The review for the wt50 dosent seem right.. Maybe it was a bad panel? Cause u got one review that calls it reference and another that calls it average..

Hi,I'm considering buying a TC-L32E5, but I'm a bit hesitant. Can any E5 owners answer a few questions for me?

1. How glossy is the screen?

2. Is there any smearing/ghosting during motion?

3. Is the input lag tolerable?

I'm skeptical of HDGuru's review, AVForum's has reviewed several of the 2012 Panasonic's LCD TV's and they are all consistent across the board with their findings. HDGuru put up numbers that no IPS panel has ever achieved and the numbers were so good that they would put the WT50 ahead of the VT50 line in performance. Panasonic would never allow this, the VT50 line is their shining star.

The only thought that I have that may explain the discrepancies in the numbers is the fact that we are comparing a North American panel with a European panel, 50 Hz vs 60 Hz. I don't know if this has any effect on performance, maybe someone with more electrical and technology experience can chime in and explain. Is it possible that Panasonic tweaks the software different between the two versions? I don't know, maybe the North American panels are slightly different because of different demands.

Finally, we will know for sure what the WT50 can do in a few weeks at the annual shootout when the pro's pick these panels apart. If the shootout results mimic the AVForums numbers then HDGuru will lose a lot of credibility both in the industry and on the forums. If the numbers mimic what HDGuru reported, then I would have to say that it may be the TV to buy this year if it's in your budget.

Well , I`m like the rest , and can`t wait for info on the results of the "shoot-out".

Not to high jack this thread , but the LG - LM9600 , seems to be back on track and that has always been my second choice.
Even the LM8600 , has decent spec`s and if the "Full Array" does not wash-out the picture , then that may be something to consider , as the spec`s on paper for the LM9600 are very close to the WT50. ( IMO )

I've been interested in the LM9600 as well. I wonder why Samsung has never pursued a full array back lit panel design.

IMO , Samsung is going backwards there TOTL 8K series only has 3 HDMI inputs and last years TOTL had 4.

Maybe 3 is enough for some , but I say , the more the better !

PC or as in my case , Mac Mini 

So there it is , 5 , so I`m gon`a have to give something up , it would be the Amp or Blu-Ray. I don`t have either at present , but the Marantz SR7005 & Oppo BDP-93 would be my choice.

It would be nice to be able to hookup all the stuff I listed and where the Oppo has 2 HDMI out`s one to the amp & one to the tv !

Wow! The WT50 shares the same panel so expect the same.

Yea... not lookin too good. The reviews I've seen are not good. The only one was from HDGuru, not sure why they were so ecstatic with the wt50.

Well , I`ll still hold out to hear more about the WT50 , but right now it`s looking like LG`s LM9600 or even there LM8600 series might be a better way to go.

Like I said , I had a chance to see the LM7600 , and was pleasantly surprised at how good the picture quality was and the "Magic Remote" is a breeze to use.

Now the LM8600 & 9600 are very similar except for full array and 480 Hz , where as the 8600 has 240 Hz and is edge lit.

Both have "voice" activated features and both feature dual core processing , also the LM9600 does have the better sound with 10W X 10W + 10W Sub.

However , when I checked out the 7600 which had the same sound sys. as the 8600 , the sales person cranked it to 100% and there was NO distortion and very loud , loud enough for me to say "turn it down , and may I please have the remote".

As I was checking the responsiveness of the remote it was smooth and quick ( not like last years Toshiba 515 [ sic ] series. )

So , if the WT50 turns out to be a dud , then even the 8600 might be a good choice and the 9600 a fantastic choice.
Of course much more info is needed , but if you read the reviews on the LM8600 47" on Amazon , a lot of people like that set , except for the guy who received his with a broken screen.

Well my L32E5 may be shot. I woke up this morning after falling asleep with it on, and the screen was turned off and the power indicator was blinking 8 times, then off for a while, then 8 times again, then off, etc etc etc. The manual said that this may be indicative of a power surge or something (which I find unlikely considering where I live, how I have things wired, and the status of everything else), so unplug it for a while then plug it back in and it will reset from stand-by mode.

When I do that, I get a vertical bar on the screen for a few seconds, then it shuts off again and goes into blinking mode. WTF.

This is the first decent review I have seen for the DT50. They still mention a lot of the same issues but they do not have as much concern with them like CNET or FlatPanelsHD does.

I have seen many more decent reviews for the LG 7600 or 8600. Also the price point is quite a bit lower when comparing 55 inch models.


We will have to wait and see for a few more WT50 reviews to see if their is much of a difference since they use the same panels.

I agree , we should wait to see what the WT50 is going to be like in the real world.
I mean people that buy them and then post their views.
Not to say that "pro-reviews" are a bad thing , but they do get that stuff right from the manufacturer , not to say that they are not the same design or specs , just to say that they might be getting "beta test" models.

Once they start hitting the stores , then we well know.

I have read reviews for the LM8600 and I`m fairly interested in that set , but I am hoping to hear more about the 47" LM9600.

I think that Panasonic is in the process of "getting used" to building larger LCD/LED sets , this is the first year they have gone big , and they may be leaning on there plasma back ground as a standard for there bigger LCD/LED.

I really don`t think you can port technology from one format to another , you can use the knowledge from the plasmas , but not the same ideas of that technology.

In other words , use what you have learned and apply it in a way best suited for lcd/led.

O__well , so we wait !

I really wanted the 55DT50 but decided on the Samsung UNES7500. Its a great picture and an upgrade from my old lgsl80.

Just got TC-L42E50 today. Any suggestions for the settings?
