Samsung LN40D550 Gamma issue

I have a Samsung LN40D550 that cannot produce gamma below 2.64. I have moved the gamma setting to +3 (max), and played with the brightness / contrast / backlight controls. I have turned off all the auto settings, the eco settings, dynamic contrast, black level settings etc. It is set to Standard mode, Warm2.

I'm using the AVS HD disk in a Sony 350 BluRay player, set to 4:2:2 output, all video enhancements are turned off, CalMan v 3.7, an i1 D2 colorimeter. I've checked the meter on my Panasonic which I calibrated early last year, and all is well, gamma levels are where they were, so I'm sure its this set.

How do I get the gamma to 2.3 or 2.2 on this set?

thanks for the reply PlasmaPZ80U. I'll give the movie mode a try. I would have thought standard mode would have been closest.

Is there any advantage to enabling the CalDay / night modes?

are there any pitfalls to these modes? such as the gamma problem I have with the standard mode.

are there any other features that can be activated in the service men for this set?

I changed to movie mode, with the gamma setting at +3 I still only get 2.48. Something is not right with this set, or I've got something set wrong.

I updated the firmware to 1006 from 1004, it made no difference.

Any ideas?

black level compensation is off in CalMan. I've attached the luminance chart.

I had some time this morning to play with different settings on both the set and the BluRay player. It seems changing the BluRay player HDMI setting to RGB 16-235 or RGB 0-255 gives a better gamma reading. The contrast ratio swings wildly between these two settings.

I had been using the 4:2:2 setting, (which caused the problem), using information gathered from the BluRay thread for the Sony 350, and one of the threads in the Display Calibration forum here.

The odd thing is, my Panasonic plasma did not exhibit the same gamma problem with the 4:2:2 setting.

The question that remains is, which setting in the BluRay player is the correct one to use for calibration on this set?
