Starhawk Public Beta

Thread Starter
Anyone else who's a PSN+ member going to DL it when the store adds it? I am.. Even though I'll most likely die alot as I haven't really played Warhawk in a very long time.

YES! I'll be downloading it as soon as it goes live. When the kids go to bed, it's going to get played...for as long as I can avoid sleep pretty much. Super excited for this game.

Does anyone know if this game is available for download yet (for PS+ subscribers)? If not, when do games typically go "live" for download?

So.... is anyone in the public beta right now? I will even do 3 months of PS+ if it gets me in on the beta.

I am. Downloaded and played a bit last night. Looks cool. Maps are huge. Seems like it will be fun. Has a learning curve even for old warhawk players. I am looking forward to playing more.

Yep, it seems controls differ a bit from the first one...

i spent an hour yesterday and got smeared..
my team mates were slamming me to the point i felt bad for being on their team (i know i am not the best gamer out there but the beta has been out for 15 minutes.. ) oh yea the early closed beta players expect you to know everything.

The build function is interesting and fun -- the weapons need balancing.. i was able to take down a jet with a shotgun?

its realy murky/muddy but the vista is huge.

I am going to try again in a day .. hopefully some newer folks who suck will join too.

I played a bit...is there a tutorial on how everything works? Somewhere on the internetz? It seemed interesting but I felt hopelessly lost.

I opted for a year of PS+ & downloaded the beta last night. I was looking for a good reason to get the PS+ anyway so no big deal there.

On my 1.5 internet connection, it took about 2 hours to download the game, another hour to download the update, and maybe 10-15 minutes to install. So..... by the time I actually was able to check it out it was getting late. I managed about 15 minutes of play time just to get a taste of it. It's my first experience in a beta.

I will definitely need to read up on the link SeldomSeen provided! ^^

First impressions:
- Controls similar to Warhawk.
- Sound and atmospheric sounds are very poor at this stage of development. I absolutely love the Warhawk background battle sounds.
- Not loving the feeling of flying a "mech" rather than a hawk. Where's the hover?
- If Warhawk is said to have a high learning curve, Starhawk will be tougher.
- Looking forward to a great game when it's finished...

I got to put about an hour into the game tonight. I need to take back my first impressions about the sound. Not sure what I was hearing last night, but the game sounded pretty damn good tonight. This is going to be some fun!

I'm surprised at the lack of posts in this thread!

What happened to all the Warhawk Wednesday guys? No bacon in Starhawk?

i'm here.

purchased 3 mos of plus and dl'ed the beta today, as i haven't purchased or played another game since warhawk except kz2, and i'm feeling late buyer's remorse for having two ps3s and not playing any games. i guess i'm all grown up.

i had a lot of difficulty figuring out the controls, or what i was supposed to do, or why buildings kept falling on me. i think i'm getting the hang of it.

i was surprised to see that i'm still a champ at driving the jeep and that the controls were very similar to warhawk.

i'll continue to play when i can, but i couldn't log on this evening.

I'm with you, I don't know what it is about Warhawk, but it certainly kept me from playing the few games I bought since. Good games like Metal Gear and KZ2 that you mention only have a few hours playtime. Warhawk has a strong pull.

My 15 year old son had a buddy over last night and they played the heck out of Starhawk. He never liked Warhawk but is loving Starhawk. I spent some time watching them and learned quite a bit.

I find the controls mostly familiar. Like you mention, the new jeep is like the old jeep. The front seat passenger can now fire his weapon. Yeah! Not sure where the emergency brake is. They just added a pro mode or something like that to the new hawk, so that feels familiar. So familiar that I still suck at flying. Curiously absent is the tank, one of my favorites.

So far, so good. I don't know yet if it will have the Warhawk "magic" that kept me coming back for more, and more, but it appears to be on the right track.

I played the hell out of this game this weekend so here is my review. Overall I liked the game, so despite me picking at some details here I want to make it clear I think it has some potential.

The acid sea map sucks. I never realized how important a good map is too making an FPS more enjoyable but after coming from battlefield 3 and then doing that map I was wondering what they were thinking. The other map is fine but they need to do something with the acid sea map.

Warhawks should have more firepower. Basically a guy who runs into a bunker and grabs a rocket launcher and then gets a jetpak is more powerfull than a guy in a mech. You have a big huge shoot me with a rocket launcher sign on your back when your in a warhawk.

Its way to easy to setup buildings right outside enemy base and dismantle it. Any half way intelligent team rushes the opposing teams base. Sets up a bunker right outside and then rains rocket launchers and grenades on the opposing teams base.

Basically the game has balance issues. Its way to easy for one side to totally get walloped by the other side.

So, I hope to get in on the Starhawk action this time around. I think the B-n-B system is genius!
