Please lets limit this thread to 2012 upgrades for the CB3HD.... Facts only

Plese edit spelling of Dirac Live....

Last time I made a new Theta thread, a few months ago, the Moderator rolled it into the official Theta thread. So I may as well roll my rumors and info over there - once I have any!!!@@@

Hey, aren't you the one who was deputized to check on this?

Hey, I heard from a little bird that Theta has long term plans, after the 2012 Dirac Live and DSP upgrade, to in 2013 license Teranex Video Processing from Blackmagic Design, which will be a separate "video" box linked by cables to the main Theta CB3 HD. Except that this upgrade will also include an new name for the SSPs incorporating this - "Theta Juraisic SSP"!!!@@@

So I see, thanks

There is a short you tube video about the amps with John Baloff.,

Here's Theta new "D" amplifiers:

Externally looks lot like the Theta Enterprise amplifiers, but of course new and different inside!

Wow.. Been away for awhile. So Class D is becoming high end. Wonder how close it sounds to the Enterprise. Will it be a replacement for the Enterprise/Citadel line?

I post my comments regarding the amp and processor here: http://www.whatsbestforum.com/showth...ll=1#post83353

As I noted in that thread, I am not too impressed with the paper specs of the amp.

Hey, I luv my Citadel 1.5s. I don't expect that the new Theta Class D amp will be that good - but I betcha they will sound on par with the Enterprises. With Dave Reich and Theta they always come out better than one could expect it seems!

Digital amps still do not measure so well though the SNR ratio of 128db is much higher than usual. 1000 watts into 2ohms is also noteworthy.

I used a pair of Bel Canto Ref1000 MkII while my class A mono's were out for repair, and they were very competent high-end amps, close to my 150lbs a piece space heaters class A's.

I kept one ref1000 MKII for my center channel and use the Bel Canto 300S for my surrounds.

The IRS2092-based ones, as well as the Hypex, especially the new ncores.

I did get some feedback about the specs of the new amp. It appears that they may be,"ground breaking!" To put this in context, I am sure many are aware that ATI manufactures electronics for many of the high-end brands. We speculated what this might mean for future Theta amps. Well apparently it has borne fruit.

I am informed that the specs of this new amp with respect to output impedance, power supply rejection,THD,SNR,IMD and other specs , are better than not only Theta's best amps but any amp, class AB or otherwise that ATI HAS EVER MEASURED.

I found more info on the new Class D Theta amps:

Has this been discussed http://www.thetadigital.com/download...ar%20TWICE.pdf ? New Casablanca's get the additional DSP as a running change at no additional cost. Also is the new amp balanced? Does it matter with specs as good as the amp has?

I saw on another forum that Theta is using that with a linear power supply. Change your mind : ).

That is rather amusing, as the Bruno the designer says not to bother with a linear power supply due to the PSRR being so high.

BTW The ncore modules are rather small, why is that amp still that big ?

12 channel digital output card? Sweet... now I need Mark Seaton to make digital input versions of the Catalysts!

I am having trouble deleting that. It's not verified.

Genelec makes some for those interested in subs with digital inputs.

I had requested that when I bought my Catalysts. Mark told me at that time that he had no plans for some technical reasons.
And it will make sense only if DACs used in Catalysts will better the DACs you will be using otherwise

I should clarify my post.
What I had wanted to achieve was to have digital input on Catalyst and have digital out option from the Catalyst's DSP after all the processing so that we could choose desired DAC's and then have analog input on the catalyst. That way we can completely bypass Catalyst DSP's ( not that they are bad ) if we desire to use high end dedicated DAC's.

Gee, Mani, I saw you posting here in a Theta thread, and I thought, well, he's ready to get into a CB3 HD with Dirac Live. HAAAA!!!@@@

Hi Steve

I probably will at some point
Ada reference will be prohibitively expensive for me and using separate trinnov will require additional AD/DA conversion .
So new theta seems to be a good option . I will have to wait till next year though , to absorb all the expenses from lat year

I posted in the Theta Thread what I learned from Jeff at CES. There is some additional real good news I am not yet authorized to reveal, but it will be well received. More when I return from Colorado and revert from one passion to the other. Norm
