The budget got wiped with the build and the newborn. But I'm hoping to add another sub then eventually a new projector.

that looks very nice. What is the material under the felt? did you cut it to match the curve of the front bevel?

I have dark brown carpet in front of my screen that can light up pretty good reflecting off the HP screen. I've been trying to think of ideas to black it out without ripping up the existing carpet.

great idea! Can you let me know where to get similar fabric? how is it attached? I have a several yards of the black velvet material that Dalite uses on the Cinema Contour frame. I bought it years ago to make masks but never got around to it. It had adhesive on the back for installation, but not sure how hard it is to work with. thx for the tips.

WOW! Beautiful HT SOWK! Great idea with the foam pads covered in black in front of the screen. I might copy this idea. My floor is all blacked out right now with black velvet, but it is a PITA since it is constantly getting wrinkled from getting walked on. Your ideal would solve that and it would look better as well. Anyway, nice work.

I'm an easy hour from Milwaukee and am there all the time.

I own a Sharp XV-Z12000 Mark II, and a DaLite HiPower Roll-up screen (fairly transportable). I throw 106" diagonal 16:9 on it.

Toying with the idea of a BenQ W7000 or a Sony VPL-HW50ES.

My audio is provided via a full Ascend Acoustics 7.1 system (340 SE's LCR, 200's side and rear) and a pair of Hsu STF-2's I picked up ages ago for a song, that produce plenty of thud in their corner positions. The seats are a couple of sofa's embedded with Aura transducers.

I started my room with a DIY screen, an Infocus X1 (after being tempted first by the debut digital goodness that was the Panny PT-AE1000U...I've been on here a while), and a DIY anamorphic lens. I picked up newer equipment over the years, learned a lot, and started the build of the room proper, but then life got in the way.

Having finished a major remodel upstairs, I'm now back to tinkering with the batcave, and hoping to start up the actual room build once again after the holidays.

Very nice looking theater. I've also used the same JoAnn's black fleece fabric in our "man cave" and have had excellent results using it. My other half didn't want me to paint the white walls and white ceiling, so I simply stapled the fleece to the first 6 feet of the ceiling, walls, and floor. The fleece worked so well at absorbing the reflected light, I covered my subs with it. Inexpensive solution and very easy to vacuum.

That's amazing, what app is that on your ipad? I need that one, also what is that on the wall outside the theater is that just a tv on the wall?

I'm running our Cinemar home automation and media management software on the iPad.

The LED TV is used to display the currently playing movie poster and metadata along with start and end times. I was able to easily build a customized screen for the movie poster TV using MainLobby.

I bought my DBOX about 6 years ago used. The model I have is no longer available. They have a variety of different options now so I'm not sure what they go for these days. They do have a dealer locator though on their website that you could give a call and get some official prices.

I'm guessing you may be spending $10 -15k or so. Less for a single chair option.

You'll have to keep us posted on how the JVC compares to the Sony HW50.

where did you set the gamma? The last one I calibrated, I set it to 2.2 and it was very close across the board, much better than any of the Epson presets.

what did you think of the RC?

thx for the info. I'm curious to see the e-shift2 in comparison to the RC which I would sometimes tweak based on what kind of content I was watching. The early claims stated that it would keep the background out of focus (no noise) yet still sharpen other areas. we'll both find out soon.

@ mcascio - wow that is a fantastic theater setup.. very nice.

I just wanted to publicly thank SOWK for helping me with test my Sony HW50. The pictures of his HT do not do it justice, very nice setup and the man himself is very knowledgeable in both the video and audio sides of this hobby.

I couldn’t be happier with the results of the testing. My HW50 looks to be a good projector for my needs and performed well. Now all I have to do is finish my room to start enjoying it at home. Lots of work ahead of me.

I'm back in the thread from a fairly long break! Just been busy with kid activities for many months and have now got some time to visit the forums again.

Mcascio,

In the pictures the recessed ceiling goes from star field, to red accent then to blue. Do you have all three and just switch to whichever one fits the mood? I really like the star feild but from what I've seen those are a lot of work to build.
