Advice for buying two new 55-60 inch displays

We just bought a new house and we want to buy two new displays, both around 55-60 inches. We want one of them to have 3D for sure and the other could have it, though it doesn't have to. The one that will have 3D will also be used to play Xbox 360 games. Both displays will be hung on the wall above fireplaces. Both rooms get a good amount of light during the day. We want great visual quality and also like having built in apps for streaming, though we can also get that from blu-ray players so we are not overly concerned by that.

1. Should we consider LCD or plasma based on my description?
2. What models should we be looking at?
