Need help to choose speakers

Hey Guys, I am a newcomer to this forum and I need your advice in choosing speakers for my HT. I have a Yamaha v861 receiver, toggling between BIC PL200 or PA150 subs. My room size is 20x20 and I am looking for speakers in the range $300-350. I considered energy take classic 5, but after searching the AVS forum, decided it would not do justice to the room. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks for the community's help. You rock.

You mean 300-500 for just the speakers or the speakers and sub?

There is nothing that will be adequate for that size room at anywhere near that price.

I suggest that you consider the Polk Monitor 60 speakers for $300/pair with the Polk CS10 for $122 and the Monitor 30 for $115/pair. These are not the greatest speakers in the world, but they are far far better than any of the little sets with mini-speakers. IMO these would be the absolute minimum for something approaching decent sound in that room.

To get really good-sounding speakers, a set of 5 PSB speakers for about $1700 is highly recommended.

Usable subwoofers for that room will run you $300 to $1500.

What does "toggling between subs" mean? Do you mean you are undecided which to buy?

A Polk PSW505 might be good, for $300, or a Rythmic FV12 for $500. I think you really need the FV12 for a room that big.

At this budget range I recommend HSU speakers for the biggest bang for the bucks

My limit for the speakers were 350 and I do not want to stretch the budget beyond 400 for just the speakers. Do you have any recommendations within that range?

An open box Jamo system might be your best bet:

http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it.../jamo-s606hcs3

Or start front three and doe a Primus system of P162's and a PC350:

http://www.crutchfield.com/shopsearch/primus.html

Get a new customer referral code from someone on here, order the either the center channel or the P162's.

Then order the other item one of the other codes out there:

http://evreward.com/store/go/608

Total cost is $300 after coupons and then save a few more bucks and buy some surrounds later.

I have a P162 system in living room which is 11X17 and I can get them uncomfortably loud, so this should probably work for you.

Yes. I am considering between BIC and PSL (for the price and reviews found on the forum). I have not looked upon PSW505.

These days speaker prices are very high for what you get..
A few pair of cheap headphones and a good sub should sound good...
No kidding... I've tried it,, its an experience you don't want to miss...

The PL200 is a better sub for HT than the PSW505. The PSW505 is more of a contender with the BIC F12 price range. This weekend, Newegg has the Klipsch RW-12D for $299. That's the best deal at the moment on an HT sub for around $300. In the around $500 range, the Outlaw Audio LFM-1 EX is on sale shipped for $549. The 12" subs that are comparable to it are about 50% more.

Thanks for the links. I'll check the jamo out.

Thank you all for responding to my query. This is the setup I have decided based on your suggestions and my pocket (not adventurous enough to try the head phones though). Newegg has a deal on the Polks, with no difference in $$ between M60 and M70, so I thought I’d go in for the Monitor 70 series.
Polk Monitor 70- front
CS2- center
Polk Monitor 40- rear
