I see people on here all the time saying they want to dump those speakers and get something decent.
I suggest you stay clear of all "package" speakers and get something decent to start with. All of those "packages" come with pathetic little inadequate subwoofers and lousy little mini-speakers, which just end up being money wasted when you decide that they are pretty poor (which won't take long).
Four Polk Monitor 30 speakers for $230 and a Polk CS10 center speaker for $122, plus a Sony SA-W3000 subwoofer for $130. That is a good start for under $500.
That subwoofer is not the greatest, but the cheapest GOOD subwoofer IMO, at the moment, would be the Polk PSW505 for $280.
By all means, spend the extra $150 and get the better subwoofer if you have the moola. Otherwise, go with the Sony and save up.
