50% clearance EMP Tek E55TI towers - any good? - Page 4

My philosophy is to have too much and not need it, rather than to have not enough. If you can afford it I would go for the bigger center.
Do the bigger center they way you never wonder "what if...?"
That's my philosophy.

Just ordered it. When I get everything, I'll post a review and comparison. I currently have Polk TSI300 for my towers and CS1 for my center. So I consider this a nice upgrade.

I currently have a Sony sw-300 sub-woofer. I want to upgrade that next... but for now, it does okay.

What a bargain! I'm set but looking to build a quality system for my sister. Looked at these a couple years ago, but went with Martin Logan last year. But $400 shipped really makes me want to pull the trigger (I hate that term...LOL).

I ordered mine tonight. I hope they get here before the end of the week!!

Please don't confuse a bit of knowledge with wisdom.

Got about 8 hours of listening time in thus far guys. Overall they are enjoyable. But the bass and highs in my opinion are very lacking. I'm coming from a pair of Jamo's S-426's and will say that the jamos WRECKED these things in both bass, clearness and highs.

Still a whole lot of bang for the buck. But I honestly think I enoyed the overall sound of my jamos better (brighter speaker)?
Interesting... Damn I wonder if I should cancel my order and go for the Polks or the Jamo s606?

In a way I just cannot believe this. The Jamo s426 hsc3 can be had for under $300. The Speaker has 2 5.5" woofers and 1" tweeter and a freq. resp of 48-20KHz.
The e55ti has 3 6.5" woofers, 2 5.25" mids and 1" tweeter. Freq. Rep is 40-20KHz +/- 3DB. It should outperform the s426 towers easy. I am not sure what to think about it.
Maybe they need to be broken in for 30-50 hours?

The Polk 70's have 4 6.5" woofers and 1" tweeter and they are also 40-24Khz +/- 3db. I talked myself out of them but I guess I know nothing.

Are you still talking about the Emptek's? They got "wrecked" by low entry level S426's, and you still consider them "bang for the buck"?
hmmm ... well, if I have a sub dedicated for bass. Wouldn't these be just the mids and highs?

That would not be much bang at all. Very disturbing to hear.

What are you powering them off of?

According to his earlier post, he has a Denon avr791, which has 90 watts per channel.

Denon make a great receiver and I do not think power would be an issue.

Peck with a B Stock maybe there is damage. Maybe make sure all speakers are firing.

Jamo does have an enjoyable sound though so as with anything, maybe he simply prefers them. I can't image the Polk's sound better, but again get whatever you think sounds best.
Actually I'm on a Yamaha AX-497.
Still, that has plenty of power. I would think it is a preference thing as well.

Exactly, I am just saying I think I prefered the sound of the jamos. (Mainly the highs, just so freaking clear)

Regardless these are very nice and full sounding, but they don't push that much air. Classical music is phenominal But if you rocking some techno or crystal castles it lacks a bit.

I'm just trying to be as honest as my ears allow me to be. : )

How does the efficiency rating of the jamo compare to these? Maybe under powered?

I wish mine would get here so I can give a good comparison to the m70.

Jamo s426 tower spec page:

Eff = 89dB

You can get the Jamo s426 package for $180 or less.
http://www.frys.com/product/6680684

I've seen the 5.0 package for as low as $150 in the past.

I've heard the Jamo package several times and I would be disappointed if the Emp Tek towers didn't sound better than these.
The EMP's are stunning, honestly I am just getting used to the new sound. Very curious to see the other opinions on the board, especially from slamin, since I've never heard polk monitor70s before...
I have the Jamo s426 towers and been using them as my surrounds. While they sound great as surrounds (for $100/pair), I would not pay more than that for them.

I am interested in the Emp Tek's too, and after reading Audioholics thread, I thought they were a great buy.

Just curious. Would it be possible to replace the tweeters on the Emp Teks to something from parts express? Maybe aluminum or titanium dome to make the speaker a little brighter??? Looks like there's a few tweeters on there that might fit!!!

Bass is super tight and punchy. Such a neutral speaker. Love it LOVE IT LOVE IT.

Ive never heard violins and bass so clear.

Well, OK.

Come back in a few weeks with your final verdict.

Not reccomended, you would have to do a crossover change. The EMP
looks to have been voiced to have a neutral-tonal sonic character. It
is not voiced to jump out at you. Also it was not made to have a bassy
type sound - for someone who wants to rock out, you will need a sub.
This looks to be a decent budget speaker, with no emphasis in the treble
or bass region. For some people it will be an adjustment, and give it
some time.
