I 2nd this. Aside from the SQ and PQ, both of which are very good, the setting of this in a jazz club and the interaction among the band members while playing really make this a special concert BD. The setting lends an air of intimacy with the audience (which includes shots of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, BTW), and you get a sense that the players really enjoy playing together. Also, the set list includes the Grammy Award winning transcription of the Beatles' A Day in the Life.

The Pat Metheny Group - The Way Up - Live, has fantasic audio, video quality and its a great show.

Yeah I just picked up the Pat Metheny as well, awesome Blu-ray.

Hopefully we get NIN's "The Fragile" this year in MCH Blu-ray from AiR and it doesn't cost $100+.

The Stevie Nicks Soundstage Blu-Ray is a favorite of mine. The audio is great, and the camera work is really nice also. Several different camera angles, and the cameras are always in motion. It's not just a static shot of the stage.

Really well done.

That's the problem with most new videos. The shots usually last a least a second or 2 and it's so boring watching the same shot for so long.

I assume you are being sarcastic. It would be so nice to be able to actually watch musicians playing their instruments; and they don't have to focus so much on the vocalist.

I always thought it would be a great use of the angles function in dvd's to be able to select a musician to watch as long as you wanted, then switch to another angle for a different musician. Of course they'd need a lot of cameras... I believe King Crimson did this, but I never checked it out.

Imagine if you could watch a concert disc like you watch a real concert, i.e. watching what you chose to on the stage.

After reading this thread, I bought it on Amazon.

Then I did some research, and found that it didn't play in some machines because of some framerate something-or-other. (Though Oppo machines like mine seem fine, so hopefully it will play.)

I don't personally care if the video plays. I often turn the TV off when "watching" concert disks anyway. So as long as the music plays, I'm happy.

Just picked up this newly released Joe Satriani 7.1 BR and I'm enjoying it so far.

Ooh, was looking at that one at Best Buy yesterday, think I'll go back and see if I can upgrade a DVD for $5 off.

It's interesting. And even though the video-somethingorother rate is nonstandard, it plays at least on my BDP-83.

I watched part of this on DirecTV last night and enjoyed it, and looks like it's airing again on Saturday. I might have to grab the BR.

It's been a long time since I've been around because of a side trip into a game start up and a long gestation period for our 3D Music Albums, but AIX just released our second Blu-ray 3D title (it is compatible with 2D) of The Old City String Quartet playing three classical works from Mozart.

We also release the Goldberg Variations Acoustica as the first 3D Music Album back in the summer of 2010. That disc is being bundled with a Japanese A/V Review magazine!

Our releases are not concerts (I agree the sound of a live concert is usually terrible) but they are recorded in a single session in a live performance space. The discs have multiple surround mixes, files for use in music server and a Headphones[xi] "virtual" surround headphone mix. The initial reactions have been very positive.

The Mozart disc is wonderful.

One of my favorite concert DVDs is Concert for George. I can't vouch for blu-ray audio quality, I've just ordered it.

Likewise, from Amazon UK - it was cheaper even after factoring exchange rate and shipping costs, and I added Gentle Giant's Interview and a preorder for the multichannel ELP box sets.

Thanks to the original poster for the tip. I have seen the basement recordings for TKOL on video, and it is awesome. But to have this in Blu-Ray, and in 5.1 surround sound, is something that I look forward to. Have they released the earlier basement recording of In Rainbows in Blu-Ray? It is remarkable how well they play the dense, complex music live.

This is what turned me on to Radiohead! Was flipping through the dial and heard two seconds of Myxomatosis and stopped instantly. I want this Blu-ray so much more badly than TKOL.

The Blu-Ray "Live From The Basement" from Radiohead is a worthy purchase; the sound is crisp and clear, as is the video. And it had no problems playing on an LG BD player. However, there was not much going on from the surround speakers when I listened yesterday.

After watching this again just now off DirecTV I finally ordered the BR. I can only imagine how much better it will look and sound and I won't have to deal with commercials. Can't wait to get it.

What's the advantage of Bluray-audio over DVD-A in terms of AQ? 24 bits bit depth provides enough dynamic range for 99% out there and the 192KHz sample rate is most of the time indistinguishable from 96KHz, so by the law of diminishing returns, going higher would be pointless.

Another advantage to BD audio over DVD-A is any BD player will play it. With DVD-A you are limited to a handful of 'universal' players, like Oppo, Denon, Yamaha, and Cambridge Audio. They are fairly costly the cheapest of those being 399 (Yamaha). With BD audio, any BD player will do, even a sub 100 dollar one.

BD also offers higher available bit-rates, and does not require audio compression as DVD-A does. Aside from licensing, one of the main reasons that a special player is needed for DVD-A is the MLP decoding.

There is no audio compression needed or used in DVD-A's lossless tracks. Also TrueHD is a newer version of (or built on) MLP and both owned by Dolby requiring no licensing fee to encode.

MLP is compression, and it's the ONLY way to get 5.1 24/96 audio on to a DVD. "Licensing" refers to the players, not the use of the codec.

I did misread and assumed (like so many do) you meant perceptual compression. DVD-A will do uncompressed LPCM up to 48khz/24bit. Not quite 96Kkhz/24bit but.....what do you see wrong with lossless compression are was it just a statement? I know Dolby's hardware license covers all their codecs including TrueHD. Are you saying MLP is not included in this and must be paid for additionally?

DVD-A licensing for players has nothing to do with the codec used for the audio.
