47" LCD under $900

Looking for some recommendations for a 47" LCD under $900. Does NOT have to have 3D but having Netflix & Wi-Fi is a plus. Also looking for decent and loud speakers from the TV. This LCD is for an older couple so loud sound is important.

Reliability is important.

Getting good sound from a flat panel isn't really an option, even the largest ones have pretty weak speakers on the back or bottom of the tv. The best bet is a wifi blue ray HTIB paired with a solid tv. The LG 47LK520 would be a very good set right around your budget with the htib. I don't think you'll be able to get a quality 46-47" set for under $700 with out finding a good closeout/refurb/open box deal.

For decent internal speakers a thicker LCD panel is better than the thinner LED models.
Check out the Samsung LCD LN46D550 or LN46D630 models which are in your price range.

Both are excellent TVs and I agree with your recommendation.

What about all those issues with Samsungs and their capacitors? I have been reading about them and it seems to plague all the Samsungs.

I am not sure what issues you are reffering too, but most people(meaning nearly every non tech-geek) will not even notice them.

I have(plus a 32A450, and a LED 55D6000) a 40B640 in my bedroom, and it is excellent(it is a couple generations older than the ones now available).

I would go for the 46D630 over the 46D550 for one reason. Well actually, two.

The D630 offers 120Hz Auto Motion Plus, while the D550 does not. This really helps reduce motion blur on fast moving scenes in movies, and especially sports.

Second, I have seen the D550 and D630 for the same price when the D630 is on sale(Best Buy/Sears/HH Gregg/Amazon/etc....) for $100 under what your limit is.

Check the prices now at all of the above. If it is not on sale this week, it WILL BE within the next 3-4 weeks. It runs in cycles, and always comes up that cheap.

U will notbe sorry with the D630.

The "capacitor issue" affected only some older model Samsungs. I have been very lucky. My 2009 Samsung B650 is "on" at least 12 hours per day and my 2008 A650 is "on" at least 6 hours per day. Both have been performing flawlessly since I bought them.

So, no, it doesn't plague ALL of the Samsungs and very few (if any) in the past 2-3 model years.

How about the LG Infinia 47LV5500 47-Inch? It seems to have excellent reviews and is right around my price range.

How are the speakers on the LG?

What's a good soundbar to get under $100?

That was a problem only on models from some years back and was fixed.
Not a problem on current year models, so not an issue.

Check out the Samsung LCD models - they are rated the highest way above LG, etc.

Man, I have been jonesing for a 630 for some time. It's just outside my price range/budget for an hdtv.

On the flipside, I have read numerous complaints about the amp feature: namely, freezing/lag as the processor interpolates frames.

Is this a MAJOR issue or does it disappear at a low or off setting?
