Onkyo TX-SR705s causing speakers to "hummm"

The last few days I have noticed my speakers buzzing, typically this is heard when wires are touching the wrong thing.

Troubleshooting done:
Unplugged all speaker wires, but the buzzing is still there
Turned off all devices except receiver, but buzzing is still there
Switched Sound type from Surround to Stereo, and buzzing is NOT there.

Is it odd that there would be speaker feedback when on Surround mode, but not Stereo? When switching through Surround modes, sometimes the feedback would be louder than others.

This does happen no matter which input the receiver is set to. Is this just dust accumulation inside the receiver?

One thing is for certain; dust has nothing to do with it.

If a speaker is buzzing when you have disconnected its wires from the receiver, then aliens have invaded your home.

When you say "unplugged all speaker wires" but buzzing is still there, that is impossible! There can be no sound from the speakers if they have been disconnected (but the chassis of the receiver could actually be vibrating and producing the sound).

Go back to the surround mode, and put your ears close to each speaker, one at a time, and determine if all 5 are buzzing, or just some.

If all 5 are buzzing, it sounds as if you have a problem in your receiver's surround sound setup.

I'm sorry. This was a very poorly worded by me. I would disconnect the speakers one at a time and the buzzing persisted. The buzzing persisted no matter which one was unplugged.

Sorry about that word choice.. :/

I'm no guru, but since I do not hear buzzing when the receiver is set to "Stereo" then that would tell me it isn't necessarily a hardware issue (such as speaker wires getting faulty). Because it happens in each Surround mode I have, I might have to reconfigure it somehow.

Really weird because I haven't added or removed inputs from the receiver, and this buzzing seems relatively new.
