Hello all,

This is my living room. 13 x 22

I am getting an Epson 5010 projector (as you see I need all the lumens I can get) and I am looking for a screen that can handle this much ambient light.

My walls and floors are white.
The sliding door panel you see on the left.... I have 4 of those

Obviously I will get some kind of blackout curtain of some sorts to cover the glass sliding doors during for "during the day watching" (any recommendations on this also welcome).

My questions would be, what kind of screen would you recommend?

I am looking into Dalite 2.6 gain HP screen because my viewing angle is very narrow and I have lots of ambient light.

Should I go something with even higher gain?

you might have to spend some change and get the black diamond 2.4 g3 screen for that room....

Wow that floor is almost like a mirror, that IS a nightmare room for a projector!

Does the high gain black diamond have similar properties to the lower gain black diamond in terms of performance for Black levels?

I am looking into the Black Diamond and boy they are gorgeous!! Especially the no edge one. But wow, some pocket change!!!

If any set up ever mandated a Black Diamond screen, yours is it.

If you really care to maintain decent contrast and good image quality in such a room, I don't think you could do better than the Black Diamond screens, and it may be worth the expense (depending on your budget, of course).

The .8 gain version would definitely do best at preserving image contrast (vs their higher gain 1.4 version, which handles room reflections/ambient light less well).
If you do get the .8 gain version, be conscious of not getting too big a screen. Most good quality consumer projectors aren't too bright these days, and I wouldn't go beyond about 100" diagonal with a .8 BD screen, to maintain good image brightness.

You're probably best to throw down an area rug in front there anyways, if you have any sound as well, that floor is going to make it sound...interesting.

I would look at the BD 1.4 I have done many rooms like your with success. Unfortinally I wish I could recommend another screen but you are kind of stuck unless you get a projector with 8000 lumens or greater than you can get into the .8 gain grays which are quite nice to help absorbed some of the light.

In addition to a large dark rug make sure your blackout curtains are a dark color. If painting the walls is out of the question get some acoustic panels for the walls. That should improve your sound and the dark cloth will cut down the reflections a bit.

Tough room, but a BD screen would work for you.

Thank you guys! It seems that the BD screen is somewhat needed to get "what I want to get" from this room. Now, I wonder how I can get sponsored by them
