Best 5.1 System under 800? Considering Wharfedale or Jamo

Hey guys! First time poster here, had a question referring to a 5.1 surround sound setup for my living room. I am not an audiophile, but I would like to know that the speakers I am getting are top notch for the price. I have considered the following speakers for my budget:

A Wharfedale setup:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...=AOEQOYNY35BZ0

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...A3A4EFY86Y6A2A

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...A3EZVSTY4OQNHW

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...A16D1Q3U7G1XSE

Wharfedale Diamond 10.0
Wharfedale Diamond 10.sx
Wharfedale Diamond 10.cc
Wharfedale Diamond 10.mt

Total: 715$

The second option I was thinking about were the Jamo s606 hcs3
http://www.amazon.com/Jamo-S606HCS3-.../dp/B005BW3DT2

Along with a Bic F12 subwoofer
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Total: 640$

What do you audiophiles think? Are there better speakers out there that I don't currently know about? What would you guys recommend for under 800$?

Where are you located?

What size is your room?

What do you listen to?

Thanks.

Hi. I'm located in Pennsylvania and the room is about 20x15. I listen to a lot of everything. Rock, jazz, pop, techno.

Amazon.com.uk, the links I posted is what I plan to buy, and have shipped to the states.

It's none of my business, but is that really possible that they could be that cheap, with overseas shipping and customs charges etc.? Those seem to be impossibly low prices.

I know Atlantic Stereo in Costa Mesa, CA is a Wharfdale dealer, and there are surely other USA dealers on the Wharfdale website.

STO Sound and Vision, Jenkintown, PA-- (215) 886-1650

I'd throw in my budget favorite - JBL 180 5.0 set that often goes for $500. Smooth warm midrange, great tweeter, spacious sound stage with excellent imaging. That leaves $300 for the sub - that BIC F12 fits right in. Sound quality wise I think this set trumps the Jamo by a good margin.

I was curious about your location since you were linking amazon.uk.

I think your best value is probably to buy something that is shipping from within the US.

The JBL set might be a good choice.

And you could add a Klipsch sub on sale from newegg and still meet your budget.

I never saw those JBL's as they were listed on Amazon for 1500$. They look really nice!

If you don't mind a couple nicks in your speakers, Vann's has several of the Jamo sets in the clearance section for right around $300 with free shipping. That would leave you with ~$500 for a nice sub. Currently I have the 506 set-up from Vann's and just ordered the outlaw ex sub for $549 shipped.

Buy.com has them on sale right now for $500 FS. I just got my 180 towers yesterday and they sound great, you will not be disappointed in these babies for the price.

The Diamond 10.0 and 10.cc are pretty small for a 20x15 room.

If you're interested in Wharfedale...

Evo2-20 + Evo2-Ctr for ~$640 including shipping:
http://www.musicdirect.com/p-39854-w...oto-shoot.aspx
http://www.musicdirect.com/p-15541-w...peaker-ea.aspx

Emp ES10i or Bic F12 sub for ~$190:
http://www.emptek.com/es10i_clearance.php
I'd probably go with the Bic just to get the added output of the larger driver/enclosure, given your room size... but the EMP might be give better sound quality.

Total around $830.

If that's too high, you could go with the Evo2-8 bookshelves instead of the towers... understanding you're going to lose some bass capability.

STO has the black and cherry Evo2-8:
http://www.tsto.com/Wharfedale_EVO2_...ers_p/2869.htm

Music Direct has maple Evo2-8
http://www.musicdirect.com/p-15523-w...peaker-pr.aspx

But you're limited to black or maple for the Ctr from Music Direct

Just ordered a pair for my mom so in a week after shipped and broken in I will be able to tell you my impressions if you pm me then. I will be side by side comparing with Revel F12's.

From what I've read the JBL system might be a worthy setup. I am contemplating ordering that setup for my bedroom soon. Hopefully they stay on sale for another week or two. Either way, good luck and let us know what you end up with and your impressions .
