I can't hear it where I normally watch it, but I can hear it well from farther away standing behind my couch. My set is about 40" off the floor on a wall mount above a built-in.

What? No manul logic board update love for the PN64D550?

Anyone try this? I am still waiting on the magical two usb stickes from Samsung.

But, I am willing to try it if someone can tell me WHICH files to use - there are many posts...

Is there a simple firmware update I can throw on a USB stick and update my sets? If so, could someone link them for me? I think I read someone said it was the same update as for the 7000 series?

I have a PN51D6500 as well. Seems like we're in the minority as I haven't read anything about other owners getting the USB's. Once I found out about Zoyd's fix for the D7000 model, I tried it and it updated. I'm not a techno guy by any stretch of the imagination and it was easy to do - even though I don't know how to speak German.

D550 use the same files as everyone else based on panel size

Zoyd, I too have the PN64D550 US model. Which .bin file is to be selected from the zip file? Could you supply links to the latest and greatest process to update the logic board firmware? I have already updated the firmware to 1019.5 Do I just grab the emulator, load the correct .bin file and let the TV reboot? Am I supposed to roll back to earlier firmware before doing this or can I do it with the newest version that I have?

Thanks,
Jason

D550 users follow directions in first post, no need to roll back, it will work for whatever your current firmware is.

I ordered the USB stick from Samsung for my 6500. I will be away for the next week so I figured if it comes in the meantime I will try that first. I need to update firmware anyway as I am running a really old one on both my sets.

Greetings and thanks for the report. I'm very glad to see it works on displays where it would be very hard to get Samsung to support you. enjoy!
Zoyd, im wondering if you could try something for me as I have no experience in such matters.

I have a PS51D450, and the latest EU firmware is t-msv4deuc 1006.1

However, on samsung india website, their version of the PS51D450 has a firmware dated january 12, 2012. Looking at the specs i have no reason to believe its substantially different

Would it be possible for you to take a look at its newer firmwarfe and see if there is a logic board update in there for the D450 ? at least if you extract it I can try and see if the TV would accept it from the 7-3-7 menu

here is a link to the firmware

http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.co...7/Firmware.exe

Im interested in what might be in the t-msv4daac 1004.1 package bundled in the download

many thanks in advance if you can be bothered to take a look!

Unfortunately the D450 (and 550) firmwares can't be decrypted but I see that the timestamps are Oct. 2011 so it is unlikely to contain anything interesting.

Ok guys! I have a US model PN64D550 and followed zoyd's steps in the original post. I updated my firmware last week and did not get the OPTIMIZATION step.

Software Version: T-MST4AUSC-1019.5, BT-G

Prior to logic board update:
Logic SW Version 11-06-07
Logic SW CheckSum 0x2E12

After the logic board update:
Logic SW Version 11-11-04
Logic SW CheckSum 0x3796

I used the 64DS_ITO_Deepblack.bin file.

So far I have not seen any pops! One note during the update procedure, my set showed "Upgrading"...not "Updating".

Thanks again zoyd and anyone else that contributed to this effort!

TV: PN59D6500
Panel Type: DS
File used: 59DS_ITOless_DeepBlack.bin => Renamed to LOGIC.bin

After I applied the file, I see better black levels than before. Colors are more vibrant.

Thanks Zoyd!
Zoyd, I'd like to adopt you! Seriously, outstanding work. I think I can speak for all of us how grateful we for all of your work on this. And thanks to everyone else who shared their ideas and hard work (Larry, way to go man!)

Do have a question, does the firmware update that Samsung (1024.8) sent us have any other benefits besides logic board revision that you are aware of? Since my upgrade had no effect on the logic board, just trying to see if there is anything else it has enhanced over 1024.3
post #254 of 1615
when I was checking logic board is all these settings what do they do Zoyd? i changed real 100hz support on and motion seems much better plecebo ???

I assumed that setting was for PAL, but I don't know.

Mike

Im in the philippines so there is no FW fix from samsung so I just did the manual logic board update D7000 instructions that zoyd posted.

Thanks to Zoyd and LarryInRI for pulling this together. I'm now much happier with my PN64D7000FFXZA (March 2011 build). The pops were really annoying me - but luckily not bothering my wife. I had upgraded to the 1015 firmware hoping Samsung had fixed the issue - then to only find out it didn't help. Now been waiting for 3 weeks for them to send me the downgrade sticks and the 1014.6 firmware so I finally decided to give this a try. It definitely worked - couldn't see the FBr in the samples you guys provided.

My previous Logic SW Version was 11-02-22 with the D5 panel type. I had to use the 64DS_ITOless_DeepBlack.bin with my panel. Now shows 11-11-04

Also note - I couldn't get the german remote control software to do the factory menu on my old windows vista laptop (the other commands seemed to work). Had to use my Win 7 desktop (which worked without problems).

I did not see the optimization screen.

Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

avtimbo,
So you're running FW version 1015 with the updated 11-11-04 logic code rather than the 1014.6?

My Lord, I'm watching Dark Knight in movie mode 1080p/24hz and the black levels and colors are outstanding! Still no pops! The PN64D550 is unbelievable performance and value...especially with this fix!

This is not entirely true. My pn64d7000 has the BT-G suffix and fw 1015.0. I did the update as described and only 64DS_ITO_Deepblack.bin worked. I tried both. Success! No pops!
I also ended up with 0x3796.

Logic Board Update works on my Australian 59 inch 8000. Thanks Zoyd, I think everyone will agree when I say that you alone have been more of a help than the entire Samsung customer support center.

none have been reported, it probably was designed just to deliver the other update.

Just to make things clear. This logicboard-update works on any region D-plasmas? So i can apply it on my german D550 device?

yes Other regions have had no problems loading it (Australia, SA, Finland, Asia)
Great! I will give it a try and report. Thanks for your effort, zoyd!

I used this techniques a few nights ago. I wanted to have time to watch a few hours before reporting back, and the report is good! I haven't noticed a single brightness change during regular material since. They were driving me crazy before.

I went from 11-05-06 to 11-11-04.

But I wonder if our community might be shooting ourselves in the foot a little bit here. Samsung is probably tracking how many jump drives they send out, right? But they probably aren't tracking how many people post here. And they can't possibly be tracking how many people use the fix found here but don't post to report back. I'm very thankful for everybody that helped us get here, and I'm thankful that zoyd has provided the necessary files to prevent us all from having to wait for Samsung to take their sweet time mailing out our jump drives. But I wonder if we should all go contact Samsung now and ask for them anyway. What do you all think? That way they'd have some way of knowing that people really do want this fix. Effort put into making a better display really is appreciated by their customers.
