Thanks for the info!

As zoyd said, all the info is in post #1.

If you want more info on the German remote app, LarryInRI posted a screenshot and some addtional details in post #130. I found that helpful when I did my update. HTH

Yep just looked at the manual online. I am at work now. Yes there is a LAN connection - so I am guessing that I can attach that to the Uverse LAN - then connect my pc to the LAN and I should be able to ruSamsungcommunicator to work from the PC to the TV?

My settings for ps3 didn't change at all though. I used the DeepBlack iso. Probably just a fluke thing I'm guessing.

Has anyone else noticed something similar to this? Should recalibration be required after this fix? The general description of what's changing is that the fix just changes the transient behavior of the brightness shifts. If that's the case, calibration done with static images should be unaffected. But Flash's experience doesn't fit with this.

successful update of my 64D7000. i was already on the 1015 firmware so i did the manual update of the board.

before:
11-02-22

after:
11-11-04

so far in my limited testing the past 20 min or so, no pops. i had to use the less_deepblack file. i first tried the deepblack one thinking that since the 7000 has the deepblack filter, that would be the one, but nope.

I successfully updated my 64D7000 using the instructions in Post #1. The German remote app wasn't as hard to use as I was expecting. The picture looks good after restoring all of my calibration settings. I haven't had a chance to watch it much yet, but I have noticed no brightness pops so far.

Prior to update:
Logic SW Version 11-06-07
Logic SW CheckSum 0x2E12

After update:
Logic SW Version 11-11-04
Logic SW CheckSum 0x3796

Firmware 1015

64DS_ITO_Deepblack.bin

interesting that the deepblack file worked on yours. i had to use the less deepblack one. it didnt like the other.

I've added this note to the OP regarding the difference between ITO_DeepBlack and ITOless_DeepBlack

What's the difference between ITO and ITOless?

After some more research I think I've figured out the difference between the two files available for 59" and 64" panels, it's not a difference between the names DeepBlack and lessDeepBlack but rather ITO and ITOless. ITO refers to the inner structure of the pixels, it's an electrode within the pixel. There are also ITO-less pixels that use a different electrode structure (I know, your eyes are glazing over at this point). Anyway the major difference between ITO and ITO-less pixels is that the ITO-less ones exhibit about 1/3 less image retention. So there are two different types of larger panels in circulation right now with different IR characteristics.

64D7000 successfully updated. Thanks to Zoyd and Larry - gotta love the internet!

Tip for dummies like me - if you get the "not available" message, you need to push the info and factory buttons in quick succession.

Observation - The highest brightness setting before dithering noise on black bars pre-update (with 1014.6 applied but no opt.) was 62. Now it's 58.

"Now" = movie mode but no settings, so don't now if putting everything back in will affect it, but doubtful I'd guess?

Noticed FBr, so I updated to 1014.6 firmware (Samsung supplied fix) here: http://www.mediafire.com/?9yx26qh8bre98j9

TV went through "optimization" process and now shows:

Firmware: 1014.6
Logic SW Version 11-11-04
Logic SW CheckSum 0xE09B

Prelim viewing shows FBr gone. Thanks to everyone that solved this.

Is that file from a Samsung USB stick for the 6500 or is it the 7000 rip? I want to verify that the 2 are identical (if they are identical). While the 7000 might work on the 6500, I want to make sure the files are exactly the same. Also, will this FW work on my 51" 6500 as well?
Just realized that my pre/post dithering noise was essentially a "pop." People that don't think they're getting pops could do that as a test.

Before - one click of the brightness from no dithering to dithering was like several clicks on previous display. It's blatantly obvious and can be seen from at least a foot from the screen I'd say. Also, the character of the noise was harsher and brighter than I remembered from previous display.

After update - I thought something was wrong because I couldn't see the noise. Reason was I had to get my nose up there like on previous display. Character was much more subtle - even at many clicks above noise point, still much more subtle than just one click before update.

So if you want to see a brightness pop, just turn brightness down to ~50 and increase one at a time until you see the stars (on black bars in dark scene and with nose up close for full effect.) If it goes from nothing to the sky on a clear night in the mountains with one click, you need to update.

Flash, the difference you are noticing might have to do with the color space for the 360 getting out of wack after the latest xbox dashboard update on some video apps like Netflix. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and is supposed to be working on a fix.

Try watching a movie on ps3 then on Xbox both thru Netflix. You will notice a big difference in brightness.

good deal. that makes me feel better. i was afraid it was lessdeepblack and i might be missing out on something im supposed to have on my 7000; i guess i just have one of the better panels. no complaints here thanks for all your work and research on this stuff.

I can happily report this worked on my 64D550 (Canadian Model) Worked smoothly but I had to enter the TVs IP manually as it wouldn't detect it.

Props to everybody who helped get this done. I would even suggest you open a PayPal donation as I would happily send a donation as this saved me a lot of headaches and stress.

It may be placebo but I swear my blacks are better now. I used the 64DS_ITO_Deepblack.bin file on my TV.

Can someone help? I am at step 11 below:
10. Open the Fernbedienung tab
11. On the emulator, hit the Info button and then the Factory button to get into the Service Menu
12. Navigate to SVC and select it
13. Navigate to Logic USB D/L and select it
14. Right arrow to initiate flash (no turning back here)
15. "Updating" will be displayed if the TV accepted the file and this takes a minute or so and then the TV reboots.
16. Recheck Logic SW version.

I seem to be connected to the TV but what do you mean navigate to SVC and select it? Where?

Many thanks to Zoyd and LarryInRI.

I successfully updated my 64D8000 last night using the instructions in Post #1.
No brightness pops in blu-ray or Digital TV so far. But I saw some brightness changed in PS3 racing games (in 2D -> 3D mode). Any idea ?
Also noted that my buzzing is much quieter now. awesome !!

Prior to update:
Logic SW Version 11-06-07
Logic SW CheckSum 0x2E12

Logic SW Version 11-11-04
Logic SW CheckSum 0x3796

I hit a button while in the remote console and now the TV is showing Red Green Blue and White screens alternating. Now What? I cannot get it to respond to anything at all. I've unplugged it. It is non responsive although I am sure that there is a series of commands I could issue to get it to stop.

IT finally cycled through it and now everything is back.

hamiltonpl,

You have a PN64D550. Have you tried both the 64DS files?

64DS_ITO_Deepblack.bin
64DS_ITOless_DeepBlack.bin

Are you sure that you have the proper filename and only one '.bin' extension?

Larry

Zoyd,

I haven't been paying close attention to the thread during the past two days, but it appears that now all models have shown success. That includes some from Germany and the UK.

SUCCESS!!!! I switched to the ITOless version and it upgraded. I am now at 11-11-04 OxF54E

Tested two recorded POPS and they are gone. Thanks everyone especially Zoyd. You Rock.

So the questioin now is WHY are we doing SAMSUNG's job? Seems like an easy enough fix once identified.

Still haven't gotten those two USB sticks but I don't care.

Anyone measure mll with Cinema Smooth on after the update? Just wondering if there is a difference.

Holy shitballs! I am FINALLY pop free on my 59D6500! I hardly ever took the time to appreciate how great the image is on this set because I was constantly distracted. The firmware for the 7000 worked great! Now it is time to update my 51"
Looks like I'm out of luck on my PN43D430. All other models getting a fix but not this one.

I never had the brightness fluctuations, but decided to update the logic board firmware anyway.
I have EU (Nordic, Finland) model PS59D7005.
Prior the update the Logic SW version was 11-02-11, main firmware is 1019.0, BT-G.
I had to use the ITOless_DeepBlack.bin, everything went smoothly during the update process.
Now the Logic SW Version is 11-11-04.
I haven't noticved any difference in image. As I said I hadn't noticed any fluctuations before, and the black level seems to be the same as before.
At least the update did no harm, and I'm glad I know now I have the latest version

Did you try it?
Did the logic board update last night. Played some games and watched some stuff, no pops so far. Kudos to Samsung for finally fixing this.

Now that I've updated to 1014 as well as updating my logic board, is it safe to further update to the latest firmware on my D7000?
