Samsung D series FBr fix discussion - Page 24

I bought a pn59d530---posting here because the 530 thread is absolutely dead. I tried downloading the 1019.5 firmware, but my tv says "file not found" when I try to update. Also I tried manually doing it, as it says on the first post of this thread--however my tv can't connect to the internet so i am not able to download rusamsungcommunicator. I called customer support and they say they are sending me a 1019.5 firmware on a usb stick.....can anyone help?

With the TV on, this key sequence should definitely work:

mute, 7, 3, 7, enter

This sequence definitely doesn't work reliably for me. Maybe I don't know what the enter key is or how long to hold it. I have the 59pn8000, using the IR side of remote as the bluetooth side has an enter but no mute.

I am using the center button around the arrow keys as the enter press. I have tried holding the mute through all the presses, and then not holding. I have tried using the enter key on the bluetooth side, and also using the source key for the enter as well as the return key. All tries were with a USB stick in slot 1

Somehow it did come up once in my myriad tries, at which time I verified the logic board firmware had been updated with the proper date. I think it was proximate to a power on as well

Unfortunately being in that menu I navigated around and somehow ended up on a setting which I don't know the correct value.

P_SLAVDELAY60 can be either 0 or 1

I left it at 0

Is this setting important and is 0 wrong? If so I will need to figure out how to get into SM to change. Not likely with my track record.

Ralph, hopefully someone with a D8000 can check for you, but I can have a look on my D7000 tonight.

Looks like there is an extra folder in the 1019.5 zipfile. In order to install the 1019.5 firmware you have downloaded, first unzip it to your desktop and clear off your USB stick.

On the desktop, you should now have a folder named T-MST4AUSC. Open that folder, you will see a SECOND folder named T-MST4AUSC. Simply drag and drop that folder onto your USB stick. The TV is looking for that folder name, but it must contain a folder named "image" to proceed with the update.

As for rusamsungcommunicator, it can't run on the TV, only a computer. If your TV is not networked, you need to use an ethernet cable from your computer to the TV. Hopefully the firmware will do the trick for you and you won't need to go this route.

Avid,

Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried that...it still says no file found. I even went to Samsung's website, downloaded firmware for the 530 series and took a look at the names the file was in, so i can match the name of the 1019.5 meant for the 550 and change it to the name of my 530. I believe instead of MST4AUSC, the name on the samsung 530 firmware from their site was MX5FAUSC. So I unzipped the 1019.5 to desktop, took the mst4ausc folder out, renamed it to mx5fausc and put it on my drive--still did not work. I then tried that again without changing the name, it also did not work. Something I am missing? I might try downloading rusamsung communicator and connecting via ethernet since this method isn't working...but id love to just do it the other way...
Avid,

Something else I just noticed. When I downloaded the file from samsung, it had the mx5fausc name, but inside that folder it had MERGE.bin folder---not an image folder. Maybe its only the 550 series that has an image folder inside? Could that be it? Im not very familiar with these different file types. And if i download rusamsungcommunicator on my laptop--how do I open it on my tv? Thanks again
post #696 of 1574
Huh, not sure. All three of the posted firmwares (D550, D7000, D8000) are in the same format, with the sub-folder named "image". I just assumed you could use the 550 firmware on the 530, but maybe not. To protect the TV, it seems there is no way to "trick" it into installing an invalid firmware.

If you have a PC (mac is a little trickier) and can install rusamsungcommunicator (a little awkward since it's in German), then get it to communicate with the TV (make sure Network Remote option is enabled), the rest of the process isn't very difficult.
Avid,

I agree--I'll try to go that route. In the mean time I have a stick on its way from Samsung--I would assume its in the right format, but you never know. I was following that route's steps to manually upload it, and I got as far as the step where it discusses rusamsungcommunicator and was stuck. Can you provide a link for the download? So when I get to the step involving the communicator, I open it on my computer, connect it via ethernet port, and turn on tv? It should find tv correct? Thanks in advance
post #698 of 1574
I found and dowloaded the link for rusamsungcommunicator--using google translator, but everytime I open it says file not found in german. Any instructions on this?
Yeah, the original link is down, but zoyd provided a mirror download:

http://filesmelt.com/dl/ruSamsungTVCommunicator.zip

I'm not exactly sure if any specific computer setup is required (it would be nice if someone posted a detailed procedure for ethernet connection).

It wasn't working for me and I played around with my computer's network settings (and installed AllShare) for a while until I realized I didn't have Network Remote enabled in the TV's menu. Then it was working fine, duh.

For a first try, I would suggest you just turn on the TV, connect your computer via ethernet and then run the emulator (just keep clicking yes). If it runs, just make sure it's working (try changing the volume or channel) before following Larry's procedure. Once you bring up the service menu, you can just use the normal remote to navigate (be careful!). Hopefully that will be all you need to do, but post back here and maybe we can help if there's a problem.
Pretty sure it won't run unless the TV is on and connected.

It's a key press sequence, nothing to hold, just 5 presses in a row. That means there's a time limit usually. If your eyes or hands are bad, mark the keys with a bit of tape, or use the eraser end of a pencil or some work-around to get you hauling through the presses.

Avid,

My tv does not have an ethernet port for that---sucks! I guess my only option is to wait for the flash drive from samsung? How long does that usually take? Has anyone here had success eliminating brightness pops from 530 series?? I'm going to get either at st30 or d7000 if I cant get rid of this problem! Everything else is great!

Hi,
I'd like to try this update on my PS64D8000 but I'm not used to the service menu, so I need some advices.
First, when I access the menu (mute 7 3 7 enter), I guess that logic SW and panel version are displayed without touching anything.
But for the Logic USB D/L : how to get there? just scrolling down with the down arrow?
and to select? enter?
And what If I make a mistake? is it possible to turn off the tv without saving the changes?
Thanks for your help and sorry for my english....

Thanks to all.

Tried again many times today and finally got it working.

In my case I have to enter the sequence after a power on, but not too quickly. I wait until I see the panel lighting up and then press the mute 7 3 7 enter.

I also found that I can only use the mute sequence once until after a power off. If you press the mute key and then don't complete the sequence it only will work after turning tv off and back on

Not sure, but people who only need the upgrade stick seem to get it eventually. I would expect 2 weeks or so, but wonder if they're even sending you the correct fw.

Anyway, no port means you must use firmware to apply the fix.

No, but why would you want to?
So ... I've posted before about how I was promised 2 USB sticks from Samsung back in January (one to downgrade my PN59D7000 from 1015 and one with 1014.6), and how 4 weeks later Samsung canceled and said they would have to send out a tech to do it. Well, today, the tech finally came, and rather than walk in with 2 USB sticks, he brought a whole new panel and mainboard (basically a new TV). He had no idea what was wrong with the TV; in fact, his work order read "distorted unclear color" and to replace the "main, LVDS and panel". He also had no idea about the firmware situation.

After about 45 minutes, the "new" TV was back on the wall. I checked and the Logic SW Version was 11-07-14 and the firmware version was 1013. I applied the 1014.6 update from this thread (and got the "Optimizing System" popup) and now it shows 11-11-04 and 1014.

I guess I'm glad it seems to have worked out (I tried the test clips and it looks much better) -- just seems like overkill.

Try toggleing bd wise off and on. That's what worked for me

Why does Samsung need a rollback USB when the firmware panel update can be applied anytime ?????

It was Samsung's originally announced solution for people that were already on 1015 (on the D7000) and it is for people that don't feel comfortable with a non-sanctioned logic board update.

Thanks but it doesn't work...
Please I have a real disapointing picture now...
Maybe if I can "force" the PS64D8000 to install again the firmware (1021.2) it could adapt itself to the new LOGIC SW????
Do someone knows how to do this? (it always says that it's already up to date..).
Thanks.

I also thought the picture was messed up after the update. Maybe the bd wise toggle wasnt what did it but my great picture is back.

It must be something with the settings.

I guess my point is what the interim update contains is the logic board update and it can be applied anytime. They should just send out USB with logic board update.

So u got a new panel and still had to apply zoyd fix?

Hilarious.

The link to the D8000 FW (1024.8) is not working for me. It takes me to filedropper waiting for me to upload a file instead of downloading the FM. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.

First : thanks for helping ;-)
Now, it's strange : I've tried to "ignitiate" BD Wise powering on my Samsung bluray player...the tv switched on it, then lost the signal....and finally, I forced the entry and it worked.
Then, I discovered that the picture is somehow "less worst"...but I have to stay with interlaced sources...if I try progressive sources, the picture is really bad...
If you know or someone knows how to go back...or to find others Logic Sw firm...I'll be glad to cancel this operation and forget it ;-)

There is NO GOING BACK. You have overwritten the old logic firmware. Nobody has access to the old firmware. You're stuck with it.

It is possible you made accidental changes to your SM settings which have affected your picture.

Yeah right, and a service remote for all us sub-D8000 owners. Clearly they have their reasons, the main one being the fact that the firmwares are encrypted, so they protect their proprietary programming. The only reason we have the individual logic firmwares is because the guys at samygo were able to hack the encryption.

No accidental changes : I just scrolled down to USB Logic, pressed enter to select, and right arrow to start ( was too afraid doing bad things that I've been very precise on what I did).

And ok, I can't go back. But If I get the old firmware (through samsung) it is possible to overwrite the last logic firmware right?
