Hello Griz, I thought I might chime in on the post as it sounds as if you have somewhat the same "less than ideal" HT room to fill... sub wise that is. By no means am I an expert as there are MANY that on the AVS site here that may provide better info but I thought I would at least give my experinace anyhow, so in essance just take it as "food for thought" sorta speak.
Heres my room size that I have to work with anyhow:
HT area: 15x25
Seating: about 14/15ft from front mains
*open to kitchen area that is roughly 16 x 22 and opens up to the entrance and my office that measures about 15 x 22 ( with one wall )
** Height in HT area is 9ft as in the Kitchen & rest it varies as I have a valted celing that starts about 16/18ft in the kitchen and slopes down to 9ft towards the entrance.
So you can see I have a HUGE area to fill
but that's what I have so I just work with it for now until I get around to finish off the basement some day
Anyhow.... at the present time I do have the PA-150 as it can hold its own given the area at hand that I have. I dont have the PA up front as #1 I dont have room for it up there anymore since I just added a pr of Klipsch KG 5.5's and #2 it seemed to be a bit more "boomy" in the corner when I had it, or as some would say "muddy"? The best place I found for the PA was in the back portion, after doing a sub crawl that is. So it sit's about 8 ft from the seating area BUT is somewhat pointed towrds the open kitchen area. Given the layout such as couch & etc that was about the best place I could find for it anyhow unless I wanted to run a cable across an open floor in which was not an option for me. Of corse I did not even think about the wirelss option at the time
So to make a LONG story/post short... the PA will fill a room that size BUT as others have mentioned duals are better. I just ordered the Outlaw EX w/ wireless combo so I cant given any feed back on that but I can only assume it will be better than the PA?? Time will tell I guess
Heres my thoughts on the PA-150:
For the price I paid... excellent, much MUCH better than the dual Bic Pl-200's I had. THe Bic Pl-200 was a good sub too so dont get me wrong BUT the PA does so much more with music than the Pl or at least to me anyhow. I also realize I have been dealing with what is called "budget" subs so you have to take that into fact. I have had a chance to listen to a few HSU & SVS subs from friends that have them as they are fantastic subs BUT a few dollars more
. Best I have herd so far is the SVS Ultra13... WOW! But at $1,600 its out of my price range :0
I believe there are quite a few good subs out there so if you do your research abit I'm sure you may find the right set up and price you are looking for.
