1. Make sure your iPad is connected to a wireless network (i.e not on a 3G connection)
2. Launch Safari app, browse to the members section of thehometheaterbook.com. Log in.
3. Click on the "Download" link of the Main Download - The Home Theater Book. Wait for the book to open. It could take a few minutes.
4. Single tap on any page of the book. A title bar should appear with two buttons saying Open in iBooks and Open in ...
5. Select Open in iBooks button. A copy of the book will now be saved in your iBooks library. Again, this could take 20-30 secs
6. You will now have access to the book even when the iPad is off-line.
Hope this helps.

Thanks this ebook looks a lot better in iBooks than it did on the other PDF app I was previously using on my iPad. Thanks again.

Warren,

I just purchased and went through the registration process and all went smoothly. But please, please don't send plain text passwords in e-mail. This is just horrible security. Why would you even consider doing that? I just filled the password in on your website, I don't need you to e-mail it to me. If I go and change it since this one can no longer be considered secure, are you going to e-mail it to me again?

Hello Keith,

Thanks for the feedback. The system is fully automated, I'm not personally seeing or emailing anything related to accounts and passwords. I've found where to change that function and have disabled that part of the email. I appreciate the heads-up.

Sincerely, Warren

did you check your spam folder?

I had not, and thanks for the suggestion. The bad news is that the book info was not in my spam folder. The good news is that I discovered an important email from my bank asking me to verify my login and password. Thank goodness I found this and was able to correct this, before my checks for HT equipment started bouncing.

I also found a great deal on some viagra, if anyone is interested.

I hope that email from your bank didn't include direct links to verify your login and password. If so, and you clicked them, your checks will really start bouncing.

Just to close this out: Warren has returned, I now have access to the book, and I'm very happy with it.

I am trying, and failing, to download sections 2 and 4. All the other sections downloaded correctly. The links for both of those sections appear to be serving a corrupted file. I've tried with Chrome, IE10, IE10 in compat mode and a download manager, and all methods are all failing.
Tried again and it's still failing this morning. Any ideas on something I can try?

I just had no problems with chapters 2 and 4, which means the files (and download) is fine. Since they are all PDF files, I'd look to make sure your acrobat is up to date, or remove it and re-install it. It's a direct link to a file on the server, so your browser won't make any difference.

I updated to the newest version of Adobe, but it's still failing. It fails whether or not I have Adobe handle the download, or download the file directly via IE, Chrome or a download manager. Very strange, and it's only those two sections.

Tech support helped me promptly and I was even tually able to download all of the files.

Could you post the resolution, or what the problem was? It might help someone who has the same issue.

Hi Damelon, the server was timing out with the downloads. The overall course was getting too big, and too many files, for how it was stored and delivered. We've moved everything over to a cloud-based delivery and it is much faster and more efficient now. Just got too big for how it was hosted, and that was causing the download problems.

Just sub'd to the HT Book. Seems to be very nice resource to complement the treasure trove here on AVS.

I've found though that the video's and interviews don't play on my ipad. When I click the link the page goes to load/stream page with a "Play button Triangle" on the center of my screen, but this icon has an "X" striking through it.

Am I doing something wrong or is the way the files are linked too, not compatible with direct play from an ipad?

I'd appreciate any tip/trick that might exist.

Thanks,
Gdfein

Any plans for a printed version ?
Nope. Think about the cost to print something with all those colored pictures.
+1

I've looked into having some of my other very large (300+ page) ebooks for sale as a print version and the cost is absolutely prohibitive if you have the number of colour photos that this HT book does. For the low number print run that would be required you're looking at over $100 per issue for print & binding costs alone to the seller.

$50 is pretty heavy for digital format too.

Not really once you think about what it is and what went into it. It took just as much if not more effort than any other book to put together, and it can only be supported by a niche market. Consider it a "text book" and it becomes a bargain compared to what you paid in college.

So why the name change?

I always prefer electronic copies of things. These days you can take it with you anyway with most electronic devices you carry with you anyway. A printed book is just too bulky. Printed textbooks are especially a major waste since they are usually out of date by the time they are printed.

The name change is part of the evolution of how this entire thing has grown. What started, many years ago, as a basic ebook, has kept growing and growing. I'm constantly asked to add more and to add new updates, etc... with all the video and audio stuff now part of the while thing, it is way beyond a book.

On the print versus electronic issue, there is no way to make this a print book at a cost anyone would be remotely interested in. I have checked on this, several times. The print cost alone is over $100, and that is with an agreement to buy a decent quantity up front. That is not how the world is changing, so that isn't going to happen.

Hi,

All the files are all standard formats, there should be no problems with playing them. The files do need to be downloaded to your device first, have you downloaded them and then tried playing them?

Thanks, Warren

For any considering purchasing this I recently did and recommend it highly. Lots of great reference material delivered in a good useable format. Will be a great partner as I now begin to build my dream home theater in our new home!!

Did this change from a book for $49 to now include video for $79 ? Or am I thinking of something else ?

Warren did you add the annex on structured cabling relating rules and regulations across countries...
