I even saw Cloud the a Chance of Meatballs 3D and other titles I guess they want to showcase (old and new) for potential first time buyers around tax refund time.

Our walmart has a "section" of 3d blu rays right next to the 2d blu rays. They actually have lots here...

Cloudy, all the Toy Stories, Rio, Tron, Final Destination, Fright night, Green hornet, Green Lantern, Kung Fu Panda 2, Pirates, and about 10 others. I was surprised to see that there. They must sell quite a few (hopefully)

hope you enjoy yours. Thats the samsung I have. Only issue I have is playing m2ts files on it. It wants MKV. I don't shop at walmart but my target does have plenty of the 3d transformers and various other blu ray 3d titles. About 12 at my last count so looks like its getting a little more common.

Got mine at the local Best Buy here (Canada). Regular price $32.99, paid $5. Couldn't have been a better deal.

How and from where exactly?

Got my Collectors Set today and I just watched a few scenes. The 3D is pretty damn good. The particle effects in particular are excellent. Sparks and debris literally fly out of the screen.

Just got this and put it through the paces. Very, very impressive 3D. The depth and detail it adds is astounding.

Saw this in the theater in 2D and the 3D is a significant improvement in every way. Plus, being on blu ray, I can skip the first 50% of the movie!!!!

I hate 3d through the ps3...no lossless DD5.1trueHD!!!

i get great 3d video on this but crappy 5.1 discreat...grrr why coulldt it be DTSHD
post #40 of 64
I also played the movie through my PS3 which doesn't do THD (yet). This is, as Charles Barkley would say, "turrible." (this can also describe the movie and Michael Bay's directing acumen).

From what I've read, there is no technical reason why the PS3 can't do THD like it can do MA. The issue is that there are still licensing problems between Sony and Dolby to work out and a patch will be released once the lawyers get paid.

EDIT: I meant the PS3 doesn't do THD with 3D yet (either PCM converted or bitstream); it does do MA with 3D (PCM converted on the fat, bitstream on the Slim).

Set it up to output PCM/LPCM and that should give you the lossless sound. PS3 is decoding the DD-HD vs your reciever so your reciever will not say DD-HD or DTS-HD. I know I have read that one of the updates gave the PS3 the ability to do lossless DTS or DD do not recall if one or the other or both. I do not play 3D movies off the PS3 accept but a few time's so not something I keep up on fully.

Got it from my local Best Buy store. In reality, it was a net difference of $5 to me (only had to pay $5 out of my pocket). I used the $10 coupon that came with the original Bluray (brought the price down to 22.99) and sold my original Bluray for $20. So I only had to pay about $5 out of my pocket.

At present, the PS3 can neither decode nor bitstream Dolby TrueHD simultaneously with 3D. It is limited to the standard Dolby Digital backup track when you play 3D.

However, the PS3 will decode or bitstream DTS MA with 3D.

So are brahby and I the only ones with the color saturation issue? I don't have the dark image problem, but the saturation is almost unwatchable. I've tried it with 2 players (PS3 and Samsung) and with 2 different kinds of glasses, it's all the same. 2D version looks great, as do other 3D blu-rays.

I noticed the color also and didn't see a problem with a dark image either. Wouldn't say unwatchable, but the color is an issue. The 3D was pretty good at times.

The brightness drops considerably around 42 minutes into the 3D disc: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...0#post21589350

Unwatchable is probably extreme, but not really when comparing it to the beautiful 2D version that's right there for the watching. It's certainly not anything I'd want to show someone to showcase my TV or 3D blu-rays.

Michael Bay amped up the colors on the 3D version of the movie to counter the dimming effect of 3D glasses. He likes super-saturated colors.

I always wondered why prices up here are so high.. BB has most of the 3D blurays for $45, not really worth it.

Couldn't you adjust your TV settings to compensate for the added color? I know i must raise the saturation for 3D to maintain color normally.

Got this at Best Buy yesterday ($24.99 - $15 rewards coupon). The movie is standard Michael Bay, your odd mix of hardware porn, goofball characters (Sam's mother really creeps me out), odd shifts in tone and a running time that's probably about 30 minutes too long. You need to meet something like this halfway, so in that spirit I'll give the story and acting a 5/10.

In terms of 3D, I thought this had nice depth a lot of the time but also stretches where the sense of depth was pretty weak. In watching it at home its more obvious that the movie used a mix of true stereoscopic 3D photography and 2D post-conversion. The action is easier to follow this time, though when things start to move at even a moderate pace I once again lost that sense of 3D depth. There's not much in the way of stuff coming out of the screen other than mostly particles and debris, though just when you start to notice that the 3D isn't happening, you'll get a shot featuring some nice depth or debris coming towards you that pulls you back in. I noticed a bit of ghosting in scenes featuring extreme contrast ranges but I think that's more a limitation of my 1st gen plasma 3D TV than a defect in the film. Overall I'd give the 3D a 7/10.

Quite honestly, I think 3D really isn't suited for Bay's sensory overload style. Having seen this once in the theater and now again at home, I'd be hard pressed to want to sit thru the whole thing again, especially in 3D. For me, something like Journey to the Center of the Earth is actually a more enjoyable experience in terms of 3D as everything is presented at a more leisurely pace that doesn't leave you exhausted by the time the end credits roll.

Many TVs automatically kick into a "3D" preset that jacks up brightness and color saturation when they receive a 3D signal. That's basically what Michael Bay tried to do to the movie itself in post-production to counter the dimming effects of 3D projection in theaters. I wonder if what people are experiencing here is really the fault of Bay's tinkering plus their TV's preset effectively doubling-up the color saturation.

If you can bring down your TV's color setting in 3D mode to the same point it sits in 2D mode, does the disc look better?

Watched this last night and I thought is was ok. The 3D wasn't as good as I was originally expecting but better than I expected after reading the main forum review here. Though, I still think Avatar has the best non animated 3D.

I watched part of it yesterday. While the 3D was pretty good, the movie was so dull I turned it after after an hour. I did enjoy watching her lips in 3D.

I've not yet seen a TV that ups the color saturation in 3D. For 2011 3DTVs that i have used, i don't think its necessary to up the color saturation. For 2010 3DTVs, it would help, for at least some TVs. I know color, contrast, and brightness are all pretty heavily muted on my 2010 Sony when i put the glasses on. However the 2011 Sharp LE835u i tried did not nearly effect those levels.

I think this is just another reason it would be a great idea to have different versions of movies for home and for the theaters.

I watched the movie, both 3D followed by the normal BR yesterday and from my perspective the movie kicked serious booty. Some keeping mentioning the "color & brightness" but that's basically with all 3D since all 3D glasses have a degree of tint. You can toy with TV settings to a point but it's still not going to output the same conrast, color and brightness as a normal BR period.

That said the movie did well with the 3D and as usual better with certain scenes than others. The thing that really helps the 3D in the movie is the conrast in colors, lighting and textures throughout. Ever notice why everyone is wearing mostly black? The camera flow and angles is quite impressive and at key moments slo-motion is applied at the right moment.

The normal BR version is as close to reference material one can get as to puhing their TV to it's limits and seeing how it does with fast pace action. The details, sharpness and contrast on ssuch a scale is a sight to behold. The second half of the movie is a sci-fi action lovers dream. The True_HD audio is simply wicked and impressive as any heard. It's not just the surround sound but the range of sounds and tones especially during the second half with the "Big Battle". It's like Saving Private Ryan meets Star Wars in terms sounds you hear. it was a fun ride to watch and listen to.

Great description on the audio and I totally agree. I rented the 2d when it hit last year and this is one of the finest audio tracks on blu IMHO overall.....WOW!

I also agree with you about the 2d video. I have not watched the 3d yet, but looking forward to it
