LG 50PA6500 and LG 60PA6500 Plasmas - Page 41

Hi all, I'm new here, but looking into 50PA5500 too. My biggest concern is about light levels in my room. Just moved in, currently using an old 32" LCD samsung and even that looks quite grey during the brightest hours of the day (esp. spring, the sun is moving closer to the ground, so room is really bright). Windows are in the same wall to both sides of the TV, no light sources in front, but the room is painted all white and we never watch tv in complete darkness. Btw, i've read almost all the topic, also about how plasmas look dull in stores etc. smile.gif I'm on a verge of skipping this great deal and settling for smaller 42" LED LCD just because of that light issue. And it's not the reflectiveness that bugs me, but how plasmas seem to absorb the ambient light better than LCDs. I'd really love someone to show me a picture or confirming of this LG performing nicely during the day, in a room filled with sunshine smile.gif

Greetings from South Africa
After trawling the web for info, I found this thread and it has been very informative
Just spent a few days reading this entire thread....

My initial plan was to purchase a Samsung PS51E550, but then I saw the LG 60PA6500 on promo at another store about 350miles away from me frown.gif Its just under 40% off the normal retail price. An offer I cannot refuse wink.gif

My plan is too get a local store to price match this deal, but Im not sure if they will do it. I will find out this evening after work though, so wish me luck!!

hopefully you guys will be seeing me hanging around in this thread soon, if not ill be in the sammy thread wink.gif

About to pull the trigger on a 65PA6500-DA. About the same price as a Panny 50" (here in Colombia) that has better PQ, but I'm going for size after much thought.

Any idea on what the suffixes mean?

Any comments about my choice?

Thanks in advance.

Well all was well with my new 60PA6500 until I got home from vacation this weekend and started watching all the stuff I missed on my DVR. I've got a stuck/flashing red pixel.mad.gif Looks like I will be calling HH Greg sometime this week. They have taken care of me in the past (this tv is actually a replacement for my old sammy under warranty) but, it's as hassle having make all the phone calls. rolleyes.gif Maybe I will get lucky and they will let me upgrade to the Sammy I really wanted when I bought this one but didn't have the extra dough for.

Hello....I own a 50pa5500 and I have read that they are essentialy the same. I'm not sure how accurate that is but I'm adopting this thread anyway since we don't have one.
1 I love this tv. I was fortunate enough to have a chance to setup and optimize (processing off and eyballed settings) 2 pannys a sammy led a mitsu dlp and the pa5500. To my surprise the lg had the best picture! So I bought one.
2 It hasn't shown any more or less ir than the pannys that I've seen. In fact I havnt seen but a few instances from all.
3 I game almost exclusively on my lg and I have never noticed lag but some people are sensitive to it so I would test drive if possible.
That's my 2 cents

Im doing the slideshow run in on my new set that was delivered yesterday
Is it fine to let the slides run 24/7??
I left it on last night as well as when I left for work today

Im just trying to get through the first 100 hours as quick as possible
hopefully it wont affect the set negatively by leaving it running...

Several others have reported handling it the same way and haven't encountered any issues running 24/7. Best of luck with the replacement. My replacement has a few hundred hours on it and I've yet to encounter the stuck (pulsating) pixel I experienced with the first set. smile.gif

I actually messed up the firmware upgrade on the first set, so it was stuck on a pink screen and the remote wouldnt work any longer

I'm a new owner of the LG 60PA6550 and the set thus far is great, a bit of IR but otherwise a great set. I am however having an issue with the set passing along the dolby digital audio stream from my blu-ray player to my AV receiver as the manual pretty clearly states the unit is capable of doing.

I have both a Toshiba and a Sony blu-ray connected to the LG set via HDMI, and the digital optical audio output on the TV connected to my AV receiver. As the manual states I have the TV speakers set to off and the "digital audio out" set to auto, which according to the manual should allow dolby digital feed to be passed along and output as dolby digital to the connected AV receiver. Unfortunately all I get is PCM audio. I've tried just about every differant setting combination imaginable with no change what so ever. The only way I can get dolby digital with blu-ray, is to connect the blu-rays digital output directly to the AV receiver (older receiver w/ no HDMI) this solution however produces considerable audio lag and is near un-watchable.

I've contacted LG with no resolution. I'm curious if any one else has experienced this same issue? If not, would someone mind connecting their equipment in this manor to see if the result is the same?

When u say dolby digital u mean AC3 5.1?
Mine works. AC3 5.1, AAC 5.1. Only DTS cannot pass though optical. Everything else is ok. I use an eGreat R6A mediaplayer. But i have to chouse in mediaplayer: Audio Out: "LPCM" or "LPCM Multichan" (depending on the signal type: ac3 or aac).
Maybe u should check your bluray audio settings.

I picked up my 50PA6500 back in August and after a 100 hour break in, I've racked up 2500 hours on it so far. I actually use it as a computer monitor quite a bit for web browsing and gaming. I can say this, yes it does have IR. Is it an issue? Hell no, it goes away in a few minutes with the Color Wash, maybe a bit longer if I was gaming for a few hours. If you're going to use this for movies or television, then the IR wouldn't be noticeable in the slightest. If you're using it for gaming or whatever, yeah you'll notice a bit from your HUD. But honestly, this is the greatest TV I've ever owned. It's simply stunning.

To add to what was previously mentioned, the optical port will only pass DD5.1 from the OTA tuner. It will not pass from Blu-ray, STB, etc. This is universal among all HDTVs.

Yes AC3 5.1, I've tried multiple settings for the bluray player audio output, I have two, a Sony BDP-S380 and a Toshiba BDX4200. Both have quite a few different audio settings. So if I'm understanding you correctly you've connected your equipment like the diagram I posted, and your bluray/media player set to output LPCM and the TV is converting the LPCM to AC3 5.1 (AKA Dolby Digital 5.1)? That seems incredibly odd but I'll give it a whirl and see what I get. I'm extremely frustrated at this point, and just want a solution, even if the solution is; my set is broken and not doing what it's supposed to.
