LG 50PA6500 and LG 60PA6500 Plasmas - Page 4

Not bad at all, you need to get really close to notice any.

From my viewing distance (7 feet) I don't notice it, but not really sure since I didn't really concentrate on that aspect at the moment.

Yes definitively promising.

Edit : It also produces much less heat then last year's model, definitively. It's been running for more than 2 hours now, and when i put my hand near the ventilation area it's warm but not hot.
A lot of improvements.

I took your base settings (which have more realistic flesh tones than the amazon settings) then used the disney wow calibration disc to fine tune - the result is as follows:

Thanks for sharing OM3.

It does indeed look stunning, but the contrast at 88, i would not recommend for your first 100h at least.

It goes both ways, lowering your contrast at 40 isn't good (prolonging the time needed to burn the phosphor correctly) while putting it at 88 isn't good either (could result in a burn-in if you happen to fall asleep on a menu or some sort of static logo/image).

Between 60 and 70 is more than enough, and the image looks really good too.
A plasma gets better over time, but you need to be soft with it at start.

Also, something is bothering me.
kosekjm mentioned earlier in this topic that he could see the total hours the set was running by going into the Product/service menu, but when i get there no signs of it.

All I see is the serial and the FW version (which is 3.11.12 by the way).
Can someone else check if it's just me ? or maybe this feature was removed in later FW ?

Thanks.

well, i got my 50PA6500 from sears for $730 Out Of Door ($749 sale price -10% off F&F coupon)...im upgrading from 42 inch LG PJ350 from last year (still love it,but will move to bedroom)..so hoping much improvements for this years model. I will start the burn in process in coming days. I havn't played with it much yet.The outside frame is way more slimmer then my old LG really liked the grey touch but its way more heavy.

Totally agree, I actually have a break-in preset as well that I leave on most of the time. I basically use the same settings I posted except the contrast and brightness are set at 50 to ensure even phospher break-in (its a little dark but you get used to it). For the odd blue ray movie I'll switch to my 'Expert 1' settings. I also set the aspect ratio to "Cinema zoom x16" when watching anything with horizontal black bars and I keep the pixel orbiter on (ISM Method = Orbiter).

Any news about if it is finer this year?

Wonderful to hear about the black level beeing better than with a tweaked PK250 though!

Sounds promising for my PM970S (pendant to the US model PM9700). I will tweak the **** out of it!

Dithering can be seen from time to time, which is pretty normal in my opinion (it's plasma tech), but lesser than my previous model.

I agree...back it down. Wait a little while....then apply. Even then I think you are crushing the blacks at 88 contrast.

can anyone post here what should be the correct setting during the burn-in period for this TV including the energy saving settings?
Also is it fine to use the TV for couple of hours to watch a movie or some program (ofcourse without any logo on it) during the burn-in period and can those two settings be the same?
Just keep your contrast at 70/75 max and same for brightness, and you should be fine (sharpness should be around 20 max, but 10/15 recommended). Don't get obsessed with it, watch anything you like (logo, bars or anything) just make sure you don't only watch content with bars or logos (if logos are transparent, they're fine).

You need to fill the screen completely from time to time, to wash away the IR and use the pixels evenly. I saw very little IR since i have my PA6500, and usually disappears in a matter of seconds, it's not an issue anymore, really.

You just need to adopt the correct behavior and reflexes. Using the wash tool from time to time helps a lot, and of course the pixel orbiter when you have a logo.

With this in mind burn-in shouldn't be an issue anymore.
It's just a different behavior to adopt, plasmas have a wonderful image but need a little bit more care. It's worth it in my opinion.

As for the energy saving, depends on preferences and if you're really concerned into making small savings. Not really important.

I take it you have the 50" from a seating distance of 7 feet? I really wish LG offered a 55" plasma. My seating distance is around 8' and my wifes (on the couch) is 11 or 12. 60" at 8' feet is a little too bit I think as we mostly watch HD cable. I have a 50" Sammy which is about the right size from my distance but I feel it could be bigger when viewing from the couch.

One more question
i saw "set ID=1" next to pixel orbiter in settings..anyone knows what is that?

Yes, it's a 50".

I agree with you, 5" can make a lot of difference depending on the distance.
But you'll get used to it, in the end it's never too big.

@goodoldman, I think it has something to do with Simplink.

Brody, it would be cool, if you could check this out-> http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...postcount=1229

The pluge pattern of the AVS709-disc would be a good way to check this.

Just hooked up my 60PA6550 (SAMs club version) tonight and I am quite impressed. I have gone through 3 other TVs in the past 3 weeks and I am getting tired of the frustration.

Started with a 60PM6700 which had a bad spot behind the glass. Switched for a 2nd one and it had a defect as well. Also would not display 1080i 60hz content from bluray properly. It was like frames were being skipped. Very jerky. Then slow motion at times. The 3D sucked. Lots of motion blur and cross talk.

Switched to a 55LM6700 and the 3D was amazing with the passive glasses. Kids loved it. Remote was nice. Loved the Plex media server. But the 2D image sucked horrible. Bleeding and backlighting drove me insane. Returned it.

I opted for the 6550 because after seeing the passive 3D, I have no desire for active glasses anymore, but can never live with LED. I have an Apple TV so the Internet connectivity is not necessary. And I got the 6550 for $100 cheaper than the 6500. I am under the impression that they are the same model, just one is the club version.

This TV so far does everything great. Picture is excellent. No defects. Displays 1080i properly. 24fps plays well. Amazing. And I save myself several hundred dollars. Only thing I wish was that the motion was slightly smoother. The 6700 and up have Trumotion which helps a little. For $1099, I am totally satisfied.

Yes, I can confirm that I still have this symptom (had it on my PZ250 too).
Pops up in dark scenes, the black bars "bleeding".

I heard it's proper to LG's panels.

Unfortunately, It's a 800$ TV.
If I was that picky I would have bought a Panasonic or Samsung top models.

But It's not the same price either, double it or triple it. Way over my budget, I don't feel like spending +3,500$ in a TV set (and I believe I'm not the only one).
And the PQ is really good for the price.

Thank you for checking it out.
so i had my TV calibration done yesterday. made a huge difference. my blue hue was thru the roof, and red/green way down. Also my system temp was well above 10,000 which he brought down just below 6,500.

before when i would watch Mecum car auction any car that was Red would just blend into the red carpet, looked cartoonish i guess would be a better word. now you can distinctivly tell a difference between them. the red car looks like it would if i was standing there. Very pleased.
i noticed this last night..but only when i look closely.. i see white noise on black or grey areas on some parts of the screen.is it called "bleeding" as few posts up?..or what is it? Is my set bad or it is just temp thing if yes how long will it last?

Interesting, looks like some sort of snow.

Does it also occur on a black screen ? Or only during movies ? Could it be your source ?
Does it appear at the same places all the time ?

Haven't noticed such a thing on my set until now. But i'll have a closer look.

Sounds like it's used to prevent IR, that it shifts any logo 1 bit so that it doesn't burn in.
According the the owner's manual, Set ID "Adds an ID to the connected devices". That doesn't tell us much but that's what it says.
Yes, like I said earlier it has something to do with the Simplink from LG. To sync every device.

It's normal dithering associated with all plasmas but more noticeable in dark areas if your up close.
X2. My Panasonic plasma does the same thing. They all do it. Try turning the brightness down a little.
When I turn the brightness down too much, my screen will totally turn itself off in really dark scenes (without any light or image). I find this annoying, I have to leave my brightness to 52 or otherwise it will happen.

Anyone had the same experience and found a way to stop it ?
And yes, the Energy saving is "OFF".

I usually put my brightness somewhere near 46-48, but now I'm stuck.

I just ordered a 50PA5500 from BJ's (non member price). I currently have a Panasonic Viera 50PX80U which is a 720p/1080i 50" plasma. Hopefully this will be a nice upgrade, I did really like my Panny though, great picture. I love the look of the depth and small frame of the LG, excited to get it.
I just upgraded from the exact same Panasonic plasma to the 60PA6500. It is a noticeable upgrade. I think you will be happy.

Excellent, thanks for the feedback. I copied the settings that people have posted so I can adjust it as soon as it arrives.

yes on some areas of black, not on every black.only visible when i look closely say 1 or 2 ft.but i won't be sitting that close.Appears only during dark scenes of a movie. Also saw the same thing once on top and bottom bars before zooming in.

hmmm..will try this tonight..but i know my contrast and brightness is not too high as im still in the burn-in process.

CJSIV/rob80b
Any chance this dithering will go away after some time or it will be always like this? Although its not noticable from where i sit.
