Aspect Ratio: Just Scan
Energy Saving: Off
Picture Mode: STANDARD (User)
Contrast: 82
Brightness:60
Sharpness: 26
Color: 50
Tint: 0
Color Temp: W,7
Expert control
Dynamic Contrast: Off
Noise Reduction: Off
Gamma: Medium
Black Level: Low
Film Mode: Off
Color Gamut: Standard
Edge Enhancement: Off
Point is, this model is pretty much RIGHT ON without much adjusting.
And, BTW, whoever cut and pasted my earlier settings to the Amazon thread...please don't do it again.

I can't change tha Black Level and Gamma level, when I want to change these settings. I probe on Expert 1 or 2., but these 2 settings row is light grey, i cant change. What i have to do?

turn off the APS power save option:cool:
I believe it only works on HDMI connections.

Yes, i do.

When i turn on or off my PS3, the TV automatically turns on or off respectively. But it only works with Ps3. I assume you have it ENABLED, in the Simplink Menu, right ?

Yes, I have it enabled on the TV. I think the problem might be with my 5 port HDMI switch. Apparently it constantly sends a signal to the TV telling it a device is turned on. I troubleshooted this by disconnecting the 5 port switch and powered up the PS3 and the LG turned on however, once turned on, it was set to the incorrect input. (It was set to HDMI 1 rather than HDMI 2 where my PS3 is connected. No big deal, I was just looking for an easier way for my 8 year old to be able to play the PS3 without having to switch inputs on the TV every time he wants to play a game.

Hi everyone!
new guy here, first post!

I know that this would suit my needs as a basement TV wonderfully..
However, I was wondering how would this perform when hooking up my computer to the TV to browse the internet, and watch movies/shows?
I am guessing that I'd forget it on my desktop (still image) quite a bit, but probably not for longer than an hour or so.
I'd definitely do a proper break-in.

Thanks!
Harsh

I am going to assume you are using Win7, but this advice should apply to any type of PC no matter what OS it is running.

Turn on the orbiter
Have the background image change every 10 to 30 seconds
No static icons on the desktop
Have the start bar auto minimize
When using a browser have the toolbar and anything else auto minimize so the browser is full screen
I would not output iOS, Android or WindowsRT/Windows 8 to the plasma. These OSs' are designed from a visual standpoint to have static icons or images on the screen at all times.

So my tv settings were reset and now trying to find the best settings again I realized when I use expert 1 instead of expert 2 with the same settings they don't look the same, expert 1 is a lot more yellowish

That's interesting, I would think they would be the same... I'll put the same settings I have into expert 2 as I have in expert 1 and report back.

@Alazo Gyik: you have set your brightness at 60? Really? The many posters here would have us believe that anything higher than 49 is a no-no. Just sayin'.

KAB53 is the owner of the settings. These settings can only be tried and liked. I do not think that this is the final, but it's good.
I've seen more than one option, but few places had the brightness value 49 under.
As far as my experience goes, I'm sticking with 50 for brightness. I'd like to have it at 49 but since that will turn off the screen at some points, 50 will have to do. And if fact 50 does it well enough, I watched a bit of prometheus yesterday and believe me when I say that the space REALLY was black! So 50 seems to be the sweet spot as far as I can tell.

I plugged the same settings for expert 1 as expert 2 and there was no change when switching between the two presets. That's strange that they look different for you even though you have the same presets for each.

Thanks for all the great advice in this thread!
EDIT: Also, I bought the $60 SquareTrade warranty, so it's covered for the next five years.

How did you get the Squaretrade warranty for $60? On their site, a 3 yr waranty for a $449.00 tv (how much I got my 50" for) is $59.99. 4 years is $79.99. For a $799 tv, 3 year coverage is $109.99.

No idea. That's what the large cardboard cards by the TVs had for the pricing, and I just finished registering it online.

I've dropped out of reading this forum for awhile, since my 6550 was running great. But all of a sudden, after watching hours of MSNBC with all the election crap, we're getting image retention from the bright white band that runs on the top of the screen. I hate these news channels that have the same header for every show they air. What's the best way to get rid of it?

Get it here at Costco online : http://www.costco.com/3-Years--(For-TVs%3a-%24500-to-%241%2c000).product.11660857.html

Covers tv/plasma value for $500-$1000

To note : You do not have to purchase your tv from Costco to purchace this warranty (this info is in the FAQ and warranty fine print)

If you DID purchase the tv at Costco you get a 5yr warranty in total ($60).

if you DID NOT purchace the tv from Costco and buy the warranty from Costco/Squaretrade online , then it will be a 3yr warranty ($60) .

Remember, I listed STANDARD (user), not Temp 1 or 2. It inherently seems darker to begin with, thus my preferred brightness of 60. I've tried going down to 50, but invariably will end up watching a show or commercial that is just too dark and or black. 60 is the good "average" for me. Remember, you never want to be so black (crushed) that you loose details in the dark areas.

Does anyone know what the best way to get this set networked or on-line is. I dont seem to recall mine having even a CAT5? Or am I nutz and mine has one back there?

Is there a dongle made for it to go to the USB? Can you use a generic dongle?

I am also thinking PS3, but looking for less expensive ideas and quick "boot" interaction times. Plus I hear the PS3 browser is kinda limited in an intentionally controlling type way?

Do any blue ray players have browsers yet?

But wait, their has to be a Cat5 on there doesnt there? It seems like the LG is big into the product integration technology (whatever that acronym is)..?

hey, people! just been trying to read through the many many pages of replies to this thread for specific
information regarding "input lag" on the 50PA6500 (well, the 50PA650T euro version but they're pretty much the same thing) for xbox 360 gaming. I've seen SOME mention of this but nothing really other than "LG have the worst input lag... blah blah blah"

So would anyone here who owns either American or European models be kind enough to give some info on their experiences? It would be greatly appreciated as I'm days away from buying this beautiful looking set off of amazon and gaming will be the main use.

thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers.

I have had no lag problems between my 360 and 60PA6550. Love it so far.
So you've not really noticed the slight delay between pressing a button on your xbox controller and the action appearing on screen? That's reasuring, thanks. Still worried a little bit, though, due to there being quite a few different opinions on gaming input lag.

Guess I'll just have to take the plunge and buy the telly to see.

Thanks for sharing your experience, buddy.
I have not NOTICED any lag. I, honestly, have not heard that this tv had lag issues. That being said, I haven't specifically looked for any issues. I played 4 hours of Halo 4 on XBL last night and did really well. If there were any noticable lag issues, my controller might have been put through a window. smile.gif

I've tried reseating the cables and using a different input. I've also tried a different source and different cables. Using a different input seemed to make the noise less noticable, but nothing I did actually resolved the issue.

I contacted LG and they sent out a tech to inspect the TV. He said that he had never seen (or heard) anything like it before. He pulled the whole back panel off and inspected everything. He used a brand new set of cables to rule out defective cables. The only thing that helped alleviate the problem was turning off the "smart sound" (the actual name escapes me) that tries to autocorrect sound levels. This really toned down the noise, but also toned down the actual TV volume as well. Cranking the volume up brought back the noise. The tech put in an order for a new mainboard (which just arrived today). He's coming back in a week to install it.

Once the board is installed, I'll report back.

Do you have your set in any special mode like game mode or something similar?

Does anyone knows the difference between the PA6500 and the PA5500?
I want to order one of those 2 but i want to know the difference between them
post #988 of 1246
I'm considering the 50PA650T but have some questions first.

Is it reflective (either the screen itself or the bezel)?

Is it bright enough to watch in daylight or only with the curtains drawn and lights dimmed?

Does it have any issues with floating blacks, brightness pops, issues with 50hz material, motion artifacts, interface responsiveness and ease of use?

Does it support per-input picture and/or service-menu calibration settings?

Does it have switchable modes (i.e. Normal and Bright) that are also per-input and do they allow me just to switch between picture settings quickly, or do they also disable/enable other processing?

Does it have a full set of calibration controls (i.e. 10-step greyscale, etc)?

Is it as good as the Samsung PS51E6500 (in terms of picture quality and ability to calibrate, ignoring any extra features that has like online streaming)?

Does anybody knows how the LG PA5500/6500 TV compares to the Panasonic P50U50? With Black Friday around the corner, seems like the Panasonic is likely going to go on sale. I have the 50PA5500 and I like it fine, but I wouldn't mind trying a Panasonic out if it's noticeably better. I have heard the Panasonic does not have as many tweaking options as the LG does. With tweaked settings on the LG, is it comparable to the Panasonic?
Got my 6500 delivered last night and having a friend to help me set the TV up tonight. Damn that thing is huge! I've had a projector and no TV in ages.. The question is: How have you people installed the TV stand? I was thinking maybe setting the TV flat on a bed or something to install the bottom stand. Any other suggestions/things I should be aware while installing my first ever plasma? smile.gif
