Has anyone tried to use car audio amps and a DC supply for a home subwoofer setup? I have 2 55A supplies that can be bridged for 110A.

I'm leaning towards trying to use one supply on a 100wpc car amp (older sound stream) that will bridge to 400w at 4ohms.

I don't know, it sounds like fun and I want a new cheap project. Now I need to find a well priced new or used 15" or 18" sub. I have all the wood and saws I would need. Maybe the Dayton 18" classic 4ohm svc. I could always design the project so that the car audio can be easily replaced with a plate amp.

It'll work. No kidding, I used a car battery and a charger to power my mtx2300x and18" JL in my dorm room for an entire semester. I say try it since you have it. You can always buy an AC amp later.

You can also power car audio with pc power supplies.

I am using a server class PC power supply to power a car amp for my 21" mal. It does the job while I save for a lg clone.

Sounds like a great idea. I bet many of the parts in a plate are similar to the amp boards found in car stereos. I have a car amp I may try with with a pc power supply. It is labeled to output 18a at 12v and the amp has a 20a fuse in it.
