sherm the one piece of advice i do not see you taking advantage of it traveling to value electronics where the displays you should be interested in are calibrated, instead of looking at bb where even the elite looks like crap in their magnolia display room.

robert is a standup guy and will be very helpful.

that's what i would do if i lived anywhere near his store.

Sherm, don't you think it is a bit unethical to purchase a TV from another vendor after purchasing two tvs from BBY and returning them? Can you imagine if you purchased a set from any other vendor? What you have been able to experience would not of been possible and to be frank, it would be unethical to do so.

I was just asking, the guys at BB are great especially this kid tim who helps me everytime, I just wanted to know if the prices advertised on these sites are true or some kinda scam, damn take it easy, I was just curious, I didnt even know there is forum dedicated to tv's!!

Well guys I did it!! I went down to value electronics and spoke with Robert and Wendy. First, nicest people I have ever met, I mean just so soft spoken and good hearted, not to mention very knowledgeable.

Ok, so his suggestion from everything I described was to definitely go with a LED/LCD, and he told me for the size sharp is better and also because it has local dimming, although he did say the samsung 8000 has a thinner bezel and is one of the most popular selling sets. He had a 60" D8000 calibrated on the wall and man the picture looked AMAZINGGG!!!!!

So, the end result......I am still confused which way to go between 70le735u and un65d8000! ughhh....this blows!

The Sharp does NOT have local dimming but it is full array making it a better implementation of the technology on a larger set

Well.....I think I will be going with the un65d8000, it just looks awesome!

So, here is a new dilemma, should I buy it from Value since they were so nice and helped, or should I get it from BB since they let me exchange 2 sets?

I don't want to be a unethical back stabber

Hmm well, in that case, I will wait. Robert mention the sharp 935 coming out in 2 months which will kill the competition including 735 and d8000.

I can be patient, I will wait and get that and worst case scenario, the prices on these tv will drop further if nothing else, then maybe i could even buy the 929 or the elite!

Sherm, glad to hear you took the trip. If I were you I would not only buy from Robert, I would have the set calibrated there too. Not to put your friend from work down. But the people that do the calibrations at VE have a reputation of being world class.

Ok so that settles it, I am going to get the 935 form VE and then get it calibrated and earn the respect of owning one of the kings of tv!!!!

There is no 935 in the Sharp 2012 line up published at CES.
The 945 models in 60'' and 70'' sizes are to be available in June.
Leaked prices are $3,500 for the 60'' and $4,500 for the 70''.

I have read through all four pages of this thread and quite simply am mind boggled. You appear to be one sided toward samsung led, so just buy a samsung tv and be done with it. Your eyes like what they like, and there is nothing that will make a 2012 tv better than a 2011. Affordable OLED and 4k are about 3-5 years out right now. All the company's are primarily focusing on styling at the moment and there is no sense in spending double the amnt of money for a model with a thinner bezel or shallower depth.

I am bias to plasma and in particular Panny's as Samsung tv's have far to many problems for my liking. The only problem I have noticed is that the VT series can sometimes look a little to dark in movies, which I had corrected at calibration. I have two Panny plasmas and a samsung led in bedrrom by default as my wife won it. Coming from a guy with one good eye Plasmas take the cake for me.

Burn in is still common and can happen on all types of tv's, my st30 in my game room gets it. I will just watch tv on fs for a few hrs and it goes away. I always be bias to a plasma over and led as I hate the edge light led's. The ghosting on my samsung led is almost disturbing sometimes and I can't stand it the blacks turn whitish grey and halo's appear over people in dark light movies.

Hello sir, you are some what correct....yes indeed I was leaning towards the samsung LED, but now after a week worth of new knowledge I am not sure what I want, words like ghosting or halo or clouding are running through my tiny brain and every time I make a final decision on the 8000 series, someone smacks across my head and tells me to stop coz "samsung led's are terrible when it comes to PQ", SO instead of coming to a conclusion, I have found my way into the realm of confusion.

So the best course of action here I think is to step back and wait for the next best thing, worst case scenario I end up buying the samsung led at a cheaper price, can't go wrong either way.

I don't know for sure what is coming down the line except from Panasonic. Now if the changes they have made to the 2012 lineup actually provide an improvement over their 2011 lineup they will be very tempting. Specifically offering a 25% to 50% brighter picture at a very good price point. The biggest complaint I've seen regarding the Samsung plasma's is buzzing. As are you I am looking to see what improvements the 2012's offer. I expect them to be more substantial than in years past.

Hey guys, so I finally pulled the trigger and got the 65D8000!!!!!!!!!

I compared and read and compared and read some more and in the end, I learnt that it does not matter if its the Elite or vizio or sony or samsung for that matter, no matter how well they are rated, no matter full array with local dimming or a plasma.......the bottom line is what appeals to your eyes.

To me, the 65D8000 produced the best picture, I spent an hour looking at the Elite at my boss's house, was not impressed, atleast $7K impressed, so I guess to each their own.

My tv comes in tomorrow, I will be posting pics and experience, if any one cares to know, I am not waiting for the next best thing, because, the next best thing will have a next best thing coming soon after, so instead I got what made me happy and excited to have!

Hey, as I and others have said in the thread, it's your money and your eyes watching, so get what you like and enjoy it.

Each of us made our decisions based on our likes and dislike and ultimate goals. I for one am happy with my decision several years later - not once have I second guessed myself after I had my set calibrated. I can still turn it on and be amazed at the image I see. Hope you feel the same with your set. Enjoy!
