New to Plasma, Ready to make Purchase - question?

Hey all,

Been posting over on the LCD forum and seemed to have been swayed to Plasma...but I have never had one.

You can see all the previous discussion here:

Boils down to I am upgrading my 40" Bravia to a 55-60 as we bought a new house and need a larger screen.

I play 360/PS3 but I intend to move my consoles along with my 40" bravia to my office. So burn in shouldn't be a problem?

So I was looking for opinions on these two models which I found both at the same price:

This: TC-P60S30
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panasoni...=249294&loc=01

or

This: LG60PV250
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/LG+-+60%...=1218480987326

They said that Panasonic makes great Plasma's so I was leaning toward that. Heard is GREAT deal. About to make purchase but posting one last post just for any final information that could confirm my purchase or prevent a mistake.

Thanks in advance.

Why switch the 360/PS3 since burn-in won't be a problem with a nice new ~60" plasma?

Did you know that posting in the LCD forum will sway you towards an LCD and posting in the plasma forum will sway you towards a plasma?

Read your other thread, just have a question, how much light is in your room? You say it's a much bigger room, does it have a lot of windows? Will there be much daytime viewing? I love plasma for its strengths, but bright room viewing is not one of them, especially the lower end models that you're looking at. An led/lcd is vastly superior in this regard.

Well what's good for one might not be so for another. That said I use to be in the LCD & LED camp. Like you I "had" a Sony LCD (52" Z5100) and still have a 2007 40" Sony LCD as out main set still kicking. I had to go shopping and frankly had Sony & Samsung "LEDs" on my list and Plasma wasn't even a thought. Two hours in B.B of all places changed me to a Plasma convert and can never see me going back. but that's me...

Both have lots of pros and has some cons as well. I use to have a view they were big energy hogs, didn't last long, bulky and had issues with burn-in. To say they've come a long way for the early relics is an understatement. They're thinner, more energy efficient, last longer, surperb PQ and cost less per inch then comparable LEDs. Best advice I can offer is follow your instincts, your needs and your wallet. Read both pro and user reviews. Get a list of say four or five models and narrow it down to two with the above criteria.

By the way the two models listed are entry and most would say the Panny S30. Also the new 2012 models are around the corner so you might see some better deals on the better models like the ST30 which is a favorite here. Don't discard the Samsungs like the D550 but the D6500 is also good but closer to the Panny GT30. I can't comment on that LG model but that B.B price is darn good....wow. I have heard and read some good stuff on the LG Z750 but B.B doesn't carry it.

Lots of good info, thanks all. Was funny, actually the LCD forum was what swayed me to Plasma..few people over there put me on them. I am interested. Im fact I went ahead and purchased the S30. My wife limited me to 1,000 (as a guideline) and so I just wanted a decent 55-60" for around that. Getting a 60" with good ports, USB, etc for under 1,000 total, seems great.

As for my consoles, I think I was going to move them to have my PC and consoles in my office, and for the fact that I was planning to move my Sony Soundbar to the office with my Bravia. Otherwise using the Soundbar on the new TV would be a pain. Unless there's a way to set it up otherwise.

Right now I have all my devices plugged into my soundbar, when I want to use say my PS3 I just hit a button and it switches the soundbar and the tv automatically (Bravia Sync)...so with a diff TV without Sync I would have to change the input on the bar and the tv..seems like a pain....? Is there a way around that?

Any certain things I need to know about Burning my TV in when I first get it (well I see the sticky topics..plan to read those now)
