Hi everyone,

Need to get a consensus of how many here are using newsgroups. I have been talking with SuperLeo of getting the BIG ONE out there on newsgroups so that we can get multiple high speed downloads going so that those people may seed the torrent. If I am the only one it is not worth the upload time to not increase the seeds for others. If there are alot (or some) of us then we can get the torrent going with alot of seeds immediately.

Please let me know

Peter

I don't have a super fast connection, but I would continue to seed.

Great work on this. Thank you very much!

However I have one note. The visual disc tracker downloaded visual rar files but it turned out to be the surround disc in those rars.

Yep, just finished downloading and noticed this too.

Does that mean I should not bother burning it? I already have the surround one...

Thanks for letting us ALL know. Sorry guys!!!

I'll be posting the corrected tracker shortly.

So let me get this straight - the Visual disc that I am currently seeding is actually the Surround disc?? Should I stop, delete and re-download?? Already have the Surround disc seeding...

The CORRECTED tracker for the VISUAL disc can be found on post #6

VISUAL DISC CORRECTED TRACKER.

Here is a direct link to it http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?2gm9mlvmuhkoumx

We lost two original seeders we had previously, so this will go very slow at the beginning.
I'll get started on the 1st one and leave it running at full speed at least for a few hours today while I work on my theater build... I will then throttle it down until overnight and tomorrow where I will keep it going full speed again.

Looks like I am D/L from a swbell.net person and a comcast.net person, I am U/L to other comcasters, swbellers, someone in the UK, tds.net, airmail.net, rr.com, charter.com and so on. So there is a good amount of activity which is a great sign that this will start speeding up soon. My D/L speed for the torrent is only about 50kB/s, my upload is (combined) 1.2 mB/s...
I'll start up tonight as well before bed...

Downloading @ 2 mb/s.....

Awesome project and product superleo. This past week I D/L'd the first 4 disks (and seeded until my ratios were >2), bought some DVD+R DL media and after updating the firmware in my burner, burnt and reviewed the disks. My BD player is the old Magnavox Wal-Mart special and everything worked fine except for the GI Joe clip, the video played OK but the audio was MIA. On a few other clips, the audio was delayed a tad, but once it came on it was smooth. I was planning on trying to play that back through my laptop, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

But tonight I discovered the last disk tracker is up and I'm D/L that as well and will seed that for awhile.

Again, awesome set of disks and many thanks!

Things slowed down tonight. Now at about 25kB/s down, and still cranking (for my internet anyway) 1.3 MB/s up. Share ratio shows me at 4:1 up to down.

Its all good, that just means that I can fill in the blank pieces for other and they can get the pieces that I need and eventually it should turn around. Can't want to try it out.

Thanks again Leo!

Looks like the initial seeder(s) are down. Availability is currently 0.250. I have 0.249 of that, and will be at 0.250 myself shortly. Just posting in case one of the initial seeders reads this before checking their torrent program.

I'd d/l from a newsgroup in a heartbeat! Much faster that way & can seed so much sooner

I think we're all better off using the existing method, than via newsgroups, as not all that many have access to the binary newsgroups that you'd be posting it on.

At the risk of being shot down in flames, as an example I don't think there are any binary newsgroups as such in Australia due to the extremely high bandwidth required for such newsgroups.

With my mistake ALL the planning ahead was useless. In the past segments we always had two more guys providing seeding and most importantly bandwith, so there were 5-6 seeds. With this error the extra seeds are of course seeding the surround disc.

Instead of waiting and having some extra seeders there are just 2 original seeds.

So I think there's a quote from Forest Gump...."$hit Hpppens"
No worries. Managed to bump up to about .5 availability myself overnight, so it is getting there. I would think that with any luck, I will be seeding 100% of the files by tonight.
I've jumped in and will get this up and seeding the corrected disc as fast as possible. Sorry I didn't get to it sooner, I've been off AVS this weekend!
Would love to get the final disc on a newsgroup. That would be awesome. Right now all torrents suck through my isp.
I'm not against joining a news group to help out. Do I have to be invited to join?

You misunderstand. No one is saying not to torrent the disc. They're saying to ALSO put it on a newsgroup so SOME people can download it a hell of a lot faster and become seeders for the torrenters & help them download it faster. It's win-win for everyone, especially torrenters in the very beginning

That would be true if the disc magically appeared on the news-group. It can't. It has to to be uploaded.

That initial upload, regardless if it's via torrents or newsgroups is the bottle neck.

The only benefit to the newsgroup is that someone can come along 3 months from now, when most have stopped seeding, and downloads the disc.

I guess I didn't explain it too well, but this was in part what I was talking about, in that relatively small numbers would be able to take advantage of newsgroups compared to torrents, so why spend time splitting the uploads across two areas at the start ?

Been a while since I used newsgroups, but don't articles expire on most newsservers ?
Could.......use..........more..........seeders.............. ...thanks.

Right now only 1 seeder for the corrected visual disk, everyone else is creeping up at ~60% (everyone has what everyone else already has).

Anyway, will seed for at least a few days if not all next week (my FIOS has good U/L BW).

One of my other seeder dropped... I'll get another one up but i'llt be at least 30 to 40 min. Its is home work time at our hose hold and all electronics are off... except for this one , so I have to wait for a little longer.

My fault. Sorry guys. I just got on the computer at home for the first time all day and found out that someone rebooted it earlier today (no idea when). Starting the torrent up again.

2 giant reasons.

1. Newsgroup downloads are mega fast. As soon as a few people download from newsgroup all torrenters would get many new seeders real quick. I thought I already explained that...

2. Because the seeder who would upload to the newsgroup could do so before the torrent starts. Then when Leo's ready to start the torrent the newsgroup nzb could be released & newsgroup uploader can start as torrent seeder. No "wasted" split uploading.

There's NO reason not to upload to newsgroups UNLESS no one will download & seed it. You guys are worrying way too much...

Yes, articles/files expire, but most are up to 2-3 years retention now.
Accidentally deleted my 62% download! I'll get back on tomorrow, but I'm a ways away from seeding....hopefully a bunch of you will stay on after yours is downloaded for a few days...
