Name bands/artists/albums that ROCK HARD

I'm not necessarily looking for hard rock bands (but they are welcome if they rock HARD). I'm looking for intensity. I just discovered Detroit rock (well, known them for years but finally got them) and wondering what else I might be missing.

Some examples: Little Richard; Jerry Lee Lewis' live album that was recorded in Germany; MC5; The Stooges; U2's War; Fishbone live

I think I should get to know Jason and The Scorchers.

Stuff like that. It doesn't have to be rock n roll although everything I listed is.

The Mars Volta - De-loused in the Comatorium

The greatest album of the past decade.

George Thorogood and the Destroyers do blues rock really hard, especially on their 2nd album "Move It on Over."

Their covers of Hank Williams' title track, Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love?", and Elmore James' "The Sky Is Crying" are smoking.

For another really smoking hot blues album, one of the best ever, check out Junior Wells' Chicago Blues Band's "Hoodoo Man Blues" from 1965. Buddy Guy plays guitar on it, but it's Junior who really smokes in his vocals and his harp. The whole album is just on fire.

Wow, too many for an exhaustive list, but I have some suggestions:

Rage Against the Machine

Tool

Alice In Chains

Public Enemy

Ice-T (also as part of the band Body Count)

Joe Bonamassa

Muse

Queensryche (especially Operation Mindcrime and Empire)

Nine Inch Nails

Johnny Cash

Slayer

Megadeth

Son House

Robert Johnson

The White Stripes - Raconteurs

Airbourne

The Darkness

Well I kinda have to add Metallica to the list! These guys are all 45 and yet they still play Master Of Puppets or Creeping Death like they were 25.

No love for Marilyn Manson?

oh and for fans of death/viking metal, two words, Amon Amarth.

...Muse...one of my favorites as well.
Here's Micro Cuts, live, one of their best songs imo, and there are many many others as well:

...make sure to NOT miss 02:03

While it may not qualify depending on opinion, I found that the new Van Halen record w/ David Lee Roth - A Different Kind of Truth - is far & away the heaviest record VH has ever produced. Very surprising how hard 3 guys pushing 60 (+ the guitar player's 20 yr old kid) can rock it. Wipes away all residue of Hagar-era keyboard ballad sap. ANd Eddie hasn't shredded this hard since Fair Warning.

Not the best VH record ever made, but far better than most surely expected.

I'm familiar with most of the groups, but many of them I only know the names. Will check them out. Thanks everybody.

Led Zepelin 4 is too easy and really not fair so I'll leave it out.

Moving pictures - Rush
Blizzard of Ozz - Ozzy Osbourne
Shout at the devil - Motley Crue

You talk about not a bad song from each album and timeless game changers.

Intensity?

No one....I repeat, NO ONE has ever topped The Clash.

Clutch. Check out their Blast Tyrant, Robot Hive:Exodus and Self Titled albums to start but all of their stuff is great.

Orange Goblin. Time Travelling Blues and The Big Black are both great.

The Atomic Bitchwax. Self Titled is my favorite one.

Kyuss. Welcome to Sky Valley and Blues For the Red Sun are quite nice.

Corrosion of Conformity. Deliverance, Wiseblood and In the Arms of God are all good.

Down. NOLA is my favorite but II and III are good as well.

If you like 90's era stuff there's a hidden gem called Chainsaw Kittens. I think they were a bit overshadowed when they released but the records hold up today. Flipped Out In Singapore being my favorite of theirs.

If we are talking intensity then I have a couple:

U2 - The Joshua Tree (as far as I'm concerned, the best album of all time)
MUSE - Absolution (insane intensity)

Sabre Dance (Dave Edmunds)

Audioslave was recently described to me by a co-worker as "Rage Against the Machine without the douchebag."

As much as I love The Clash, I would argue that The Who live circa 1970 had 'em beat in that department.

Joe Strummer was certainly passionate, and his band in its various incarnations was intense, but I don't know how you could top Keith and Pete and Roger and John (in his own quiet but badass bass lines way) in energy, intensity and all around badass, loud rock and roll these go to eleven sort of way.
