Which HDMI Cable Vendor should I go with?

Thread Starter
I'm a big fan of Monoprice and will be using their cables for my new theater install. Recently I had an installer who told me to be careful with monoprice hdmi cables because he's had some customers who have had problems with them for their in-wall installs. Apparently the cables go bad and the quality suffers. Of course this could be the affect of all sorts of things. I don't have the details.

My run is going to be 30' from the AV closet to the TV. I was planning on using the monoprice cable. Has anyone here used other cables that they love or things is a better than monoprice in the same price range? Give or take? Since I'm only making one run I am willing to pay a little bit more for quality. No monster cables please!! :-)

This is the monprice cable. http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...ormat=2&style=

Thanks

Even a 'good' cable can fail - connector's can easily be ripped off of the cable.

If its not possible to run your cable in a conduit ensure you have a Plan B!

Monoprice is about as good as it gets in its price range. If you want one of the best cables available at any price, without paying boutique prices, you might want to consider the Blue Jeans Cable Series 1 cable. It is about 3 times the cost of a monoprice cable.

FWIW cables don't just go bad. They fail because of damage from an external agent, most frequently at the connector. Install the cable properly and don't put undue stress on the connector and the cable will last a life time.

Be careful of an installer who talks about picture quality issues with HDMI cables. You either get a perfect picture or you get obvious (very obvious) artifacts. You won't see your picture quality, sich as contrast or brightness or color change if a cable "went bad".

The way you wrote that makes me think he/she was trying to find a reason to sell higher priced cables.

I have NOT used Monoprice therefore I can not comment. I have used Monster cables from a cheap video composite cable to an expensive HDMI one. The Monster HDMI has worked good. My only complaint is that it is very stiff and to avoid the shake(only once) particularly on tight spaces you have to loop it just right. At one point I had a combination of Monster and Belkin HDMI cables on my Home Theater. I was able to get bargain prices for Audioquest HDMI-3 and that is what I have now except for one Belkin. I am very pleased with the PQ and SQ. Most of them are three feet long. The Belkin HDMI is four feet long.

I've used Monoprice before (successfully) and am currently using MediaBridge. Monster will work fine but their pricing is ridiculous because you don't really get any better quality than you will with Monoprice, MediaBridge, or BlueJeans.

I have 2 sets with 25 feet of 22 gage C2 monoprice hdmi cables with 28 gage 8 inch port savers on both ends with wall jacks same gage as port saver plus 6 feet of 24 gage hdmi from DirecTV HDDVR all hi speed, what ever that means, and it works great. 3D that works. I have used a lot of monprice products with not one bad result. Have used the so called Hi end stuff, looks great but I don't care about what it looks like just does it do the job, and monoprice does.

Atlona makes relatively inexpensive cables in high end class. High speed HDMI cables with swivel connector, flat cables, locking cables etc.
The new Linkconnect series cables have higher bandwidth and performance required to support 4k x 2k HD video resolutions and 3D video. They also have 24k gold-plated tight-fit contact connectors and multilayer shielding that ensures peak HD video performance. Though I think they won't be awailable until mid-March.

Any High Speed rated HDMI cable can do this. Please don't spend extra money for these capabilities since the whole idea behind a certified High Speed cable is to make sure you'll have plenty of bandwidth (and more) for all current and planned features.
