Need help finding a screen for this room (picture)

I haven't done projection yet and am just getting started in the planning phase.

I want a screen that fits in this room and drops down (electrical preferably, but can do manual if electrical can't fit what I want).

The walls are 9' apart (108 inches) I've got about 4" on top that I can use to bring out the crown to hide the projector innards (maybe a bit more if I have to fudge it).

The side wood borders are 4" each and I would like to NOT show the books on either side.

The problem I'm having is finding a screen that the housing is 108 inches wide, but has a screen that is about 100" total width.

Most screens seem to have a huge mechanical footprint on top and the actual screen is much shorter width.

If absolutely necessary I could rip out the drywall on the ceiling and the sides to gain a bit extra room, but there are studs in the way on the sides unfortunately, so I can't be tricky and try to bury it in the walls, lol!

Any ideas?

If you want a screen that is nearly the full width, you will have to go with a manual screen.

Ok, any recommendations then?

Dragonfly 110" Non-tensioned Electric screen. Case ~106", Screen ~100" wide with borders.

Da-Lite 110" Cosmopolitan Electric. Case ~108", Screen ~100" wide with borders.

Da-Lite 110" Model C Manual. Case ~104", Screen ~100" wide with borders.

I'm sure there are others. You'll have trouble finding a tensioned screen but manual pull down and some electrics shouldn't be a problem. Try Vutec, Draper, Elite, etc.

OPer does not want the books to show on either side of the book case when the screen is down. Means the screen to end of case has to be less than four inches on either side. There is not an electric screen that I know of that meets those requirements. It is probably going to be tough to find a manual that meets your requirements. Da-Lite does not make a standard manual screen that meets your requirements of hiding the books on both sides (100" +) that has a case under 108".

A 110" diagonal which is 96"wide with 2" borders will give him a 100" wide screen. The models mentioned is probably the closest he will come. The Da-lite cosmopolitan is 4" from end of case to the black border.

You are right. For some reason I forgot all about the borders. The Da-lite cosmopolitan may or may not fit since the case is 108" long.

Cool, thanks guys!

Any idea of the street costs of these motorized screens (like the Dragonfly)?

Also, my front three speakers will be behind the screen (as shown in the picture). I hadn't thought that would be a problem?

This room has excellent light control, what type of screen should I get for 2D/3D viewing with 3D projector like the Optoma or Epson $1500 machines?

Thanks again for your help guys!!

Speakers behind is a problem. You need an acoustically transparent (AT) screen. Dragonfly doesn't make an electric one. Da-lite makes the cosmopolitan with a perforated material but it is then a tensioned screen and the case is ~8" larger for the same size screen. I'm not fond of their perforated material, the holes are rather large and you need to sit further back not to notice them. They don't have any manual screens with perforations.

In a nutshell you just raised your budget significantly, but here are some possibilities.

Seymour screens has an AT screen but its case is 108.8". I'm not sure if you could remove the end caps or do something to make it fit. I'd give them a call and see what they can do.

Stewart's Luxus would work and most of their materials can be perforated. Their perforations are not as big as Da-lite's and not as easily seen unless sitting close.

Vutec Lectric 1 with their AT material would work and would probably be the least expensive option.

Draper's AT material is only 92" wide (96" with borders, 106" diagonal). If you can go a little smaller this may work but still pricey.

You might want to try Elite screens and see if they have anything. I'm not familiar with their product line up.

Hope this helps.

Looks like the Vutec Lectric I with SoundScreen would work, but it's like $1000 more for the SS variant.

How bad IS it to not use an AT screen in my situation?

BAD!!! It is like putting a cover over the speakers. Dialogue intelligibility would be terrible. You either have to move your speakers so they aren't blocked by the screen or pay the price. Sorry

If you did away with the TV and used the projector as your main display you might be able to fit the speakers below the screen.

Ok, ok, I think I am going to get a better look if I go with a manual screen.

Not like it's that big a deal to get my butt off the couch and pull it down myself.

Having a HARD TIME finding a manual pull down screen that is also soundscreen.

So ideally I would like a screen with the case that would fit in the 108 inches I have and have the actual screen and viewing be as wide as possible.

Google search doesn't seem to work with things like "manual soundscreen" or "pull down soundscreen", I keep getting a bunch of motorized options and fixed screen options...

Any help is appreciated!

Doing some more research maybe a Draper Luma 2 with Autoretract 110", but not sure if that comes in their nano accoustic material?
The Dragonfly electric 110" looks nice but apparently doesn't come in accoustic transparent material.

Maybe I'm just going to have to move my speakers, and put them on the bottom shelf and tear out the bottom door panels and put a mesh cover or something so I can place my center near the foor??

Sounds like a good plan.
