Computer not recognizing TV

Thread Starter
Just got a Toshiba 55G310U (1080p 120 Hz LCD) and was hooking it up an emachines 1358G-51w but the computer doesn't recognize the TV. It recognizes the TV as a 'generic PnP monitor' and only lets me change the resolution as high as 1360x768.

The computer is running Windows 64bit and is connected to the TV with a SVGA. I am running a geforce 6150 se nforce 430 graphics card with the latest updates but my PC will not recognize the resolution of the TV at 1920x1080. Instead it caps out my options at 1360x768 despite what drivers I download.

I read that PCs with 64bit Windows 7 have this problem when hooking up a TV as an external monitor. I tried downloading TV drivers (there are none) and other drivers but nothing has worked.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Greetings

Some TVs VGA inputs have resolution restrictions. Check the toshiba manual for what is permitted.

Try changing the refresh rate, it may open up new options. Not sure where it is in Win 7, but in XP: Control panel -> display -> settings -> advanced -> monitor
Or right click your nvidia tray icon if you have one.

+1. To get 1920X1080 you may have to use an HDMI cable...

Michael TLV is right, check your manual.

1080p through VGA is not common in the TV-world.

From your user manual ... 1366x768 is the max it takes for VGA ...

RTM ...

Which is a little strange, because you can drive 2048x1536 @ 60Hz though VGA. More than enough for HD.
