Aaxa M2 vs. HP companion projector

Hey guys,
I'm looking for a projector just to use in my room. The room is light controlled and i'll probably be using a 60-80" screen.

Will be using the projector for things like movies, youtube, etc all off my computer.

That said, I need some help!

How much of a difference do you think i'll see between the two?
The M2 has a contrast ratio of 2000:1, and 1024x768 resolution as it's main advantages over the HP projector, which has a contrast ratio of 800:1 and 858x600 resolution. The m2 also has 10 more lumens of brightness at 110 vs. 100 ansi.

I'm on a college budget, and can get the m2 for 229$ while the HP probably around $150. Any recommendations? I'm just wondering how much of a difference i'll notice between the higher resolution and contrast ratio of the m2, and if it'd be worth the extra cost...which though only $80, is still alot

Thanks!

Hmm...anyone? Also considering the acer k11...just can't figure out what most important- having the brightness or resolution to create the best overall looking picture. Haven't ever seen one in person, so it's a bit hard to imagine.

This is a hard one for most people to help you with because you are at the bottom of the barrel in price range. Ok?

Now having said that, I did own the hp companion projector you are talking about and it could work for you if you don't have ANYTHING to compare it to. The problem I had with it is it is very LONG throw projector, meaning you have to be 10 feet or more to get big picture. Now more regular projectors can do this easily because they are 2,000 lumens. But the hp companion is 100 lumens. So the further you are away from screen the dimmer the picture.

The hp companion is 800x600 picture and will work with your laptop, but it has to be 3 feet away from projector, very short cable.

At 6 feet back you get maybe a 32-37 inch screen, not big at all. Now if the hp companion was short throw, I would have kept it. If at 6 feet you get 80-100 screen, but it doesn't. Maybe check out amazon top projectors, if you want something in 800x600 or 1020x760 they have them in 300-400 dollar range with 2,000 lumens. http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers...rsr_e_1_4_last

I have viewsonic pro8200 1080p projector that I got from newegg for 650 a little over a month ago. Then I bought the hp companion a few weeks after that. So I was able to compare them and of course the pro8200 blew the hp companion out of the water in every way. I am also looking for another projector for home theater experience so I can keep my pro8200 more portable.

I think the pico tiny ones are a joke and a novelty item , maybe in a few years they will be cool, since laser is coming out.

Maybe others can share there experience too.

My view is get a small 32-42 inch hdtv instead, because then you can use it as pc monitor, watching movies, gaming and don't have to worry about bulb life. If you are gonna do projector get a decent one with tons of good reviews so you are at least in the ballpark where others are at. And when you get 700-1000 , get a good budget model in 1080p. Good luck bro.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I realize most on here are not familiar with these cheap projectors...believe me I wish I could be in the market for higher end stuff too ...one day.

To be completely honest...I kind of want a projector for the coolness factor as well (otherwise i'd be getting a cheap hdtv). I like gadgets.

I'd be considering a lower end 720p projector, but I'd really like to stick to led just cause i'll probably putting alot of hours on it and I dont' want to have to worry about bulbs going out.

That said- any opinion on the acer k11? It has 200 lumens...while this still is nothing compared to non-portables, from what i've researched I think i'd be happy with it in my room, especially considering i'll be using it in complete dark?
I can get it for around $220, so with that in mind...i'd still rather have it than a $220 tv.

Thanks

If you look for super sales on stuff you can pick up something good. I got a 42inch LG 1080p hdtv for 188 dollars 3 weeks ago from Best Buy. The hp notebook companion I was able to get for 110 dollars. So keep your eyes open. To tell you the truth bro, the type you are interested in sounds good as fantasy thing, that is why I got the hp companion. I thought , cool, cheap , portable, long bulb life, 100 bucks, what is not to like. Even for 110 dollars I sent it back.
The advantage of hdtv is 50,000 hours life, 1080p, no lag, can be used as computer monitor, TV, gaming device, and light weight. At least the LG is maybe 20 pounds, compared to 42 inch hdtv from 4 years ago which was about 60-80 pounds.

Maybe others will share how they like the pico/tiny projectors and would be cool for college room. But if anyone in dorm as a 1080p portable and then they see your "kiddie toy", not sure how cool it will be. Again if it produced 80-100 inch screen in short throw, I would say get it, but at 6 feet 32 inch screen. Most people's hdtv is bigger than that. And forget about it during the daytime. Even if you can spring 300 dollars , at least get a 800x600 2,000 lumen one, viewsonic that is at least the cheapest 1st choice on amazon. Of all the projectors , somehow that stays as first projector slot on amazon of all of them. Of course it's not the best projector but somehow gets amazon's 1st out of 100 status on projectors for a few months now.
