HEY All,

Thanks so much for the wonderful forum. I got offered an HX909 for $1200 and I was wondering since the TV is an older model, if I could now get a better TV with the same price or a little bit more, or if I should just the the sony.

Thanks so much in advance.

It was considering one of the best TV of 2010. The price seems good (is it brand new or used?)

I would be hard not to recommand the TV. Knowing what you plan on doing with it would help us but I don't see how you could go wrong with this one.

It's for a bedroom, the bedroom is on a basement so it is pretty dark, the distance between me and the TV will be around 8 feet. I will use it for normal tv, bluerays and a lot of ps3 games.

Thanks so much

I have the 52 inch version HX909, it is IMHO superior to the HX929 sets except for 3D. I would NOT hesitate to get it, I use mine for gaming exclusively with the occasional blu ray and that lovley THICK glass vs the plastic on the new ones really lends to a better build quality.

Also the panels in the HX909 are from Sharp and are made in Japan, I feel these were the last great SOny tv's we will see for a long time if ever if how things are going for them are any indication.

I have the set with ISF calibrated settings, check my past posts for the settings.

I was actually thinking on getting the 46hx909 for the bedroom, but it seems pretty hard to find

Enjoy!

!

The HX909 is a great set. However, I respectfully disagree with it being superior to the HX929 in terms of PQ and Build quality. I had the 52" 909 and now the 55" 929, and its an upgrade from every angle!

While it may not be made in Japan, it's build quality is excellent!! The PQ is amazing, and doesn't wash out as bad off angle either. The blacks on the 929 are much better too!

I'm not sure how you arrived at the conclusion that the 909 is a superior set.

Because I had both aswell. I kept the 909 because it is of a better build quality, you like the very thin plastic ( gorilla glass) that isnt even fully attached? You like the line debacle that everyone is dealing with the 929? The 929 has better 3d, blooming and off axis viewing is minor improvement, how you can advise someone to pay and extra $1300 on the 46hx929 over the 909 is beyond me. The uniformity is worse on the 929's vs the 909. I personally could not disagree with you more, sorry.

The blacks are not better on the 929, pretty hard to beat 0 luminance on blacks that the 909 already had.

If I had a chance to trade my 909 for a 929 straight up, I would NOT do it. I was very disappointed in the 929. Glad your enjoying yours though.

I have no issues with the glass being not attached/bonding. Also, the minor banding issue I had was gone after a week's use, so again a non issue.

I am not advising anyone to pay an extra $1300 for the 929. How you read into that is, again, beyond me! The 909 is a great buy at $1200.

I haven't had the 929 ISF calibrated yet [ used Spears and Munsil ] but blacks already look better to me [ and others ] over the 909!

I was recommending him get the 909 and I offered my take on the 929, you clearly feel differently and thats ok. I see you had a 55vt30... I have seen that tv and I feel its better then both of our tvs, why did you get rid of it? I am very sensitive to uniformity/banding and the vt30 has NONE.

The 55 VT30 had a bunch of dead pixels...so back it went!

Two days ago, I received the 65VT30 and am loving it so far!!.. Amazing TV!
It'll probably dethrone the 929, and retire it to the bedroom

Seriously though, I'm very pleasantly surprised and impressed with this Panny!!

Yea, I really felt overall the Panny was better then any other tv out there right now, thats just my opinion but I wasnt aware these had issues with dead pixels!! I generally only play games so I am concerned about image retention on the Panny, you see any so far? Motion blur less on this then the Sony?
