I have 2 projectors. Which should I use in my situation?

I'll try and keep this short. Abut a year ago, I needed a new projector. I ended up getting a b-stock Sony vw60 from the special AVS was offering. Loved it, but my wife and I are divorcing. I left some equipment in the house, mainly for the kids, with the stipulation that the equipment is my property in the divorce papers.

It turns out, I have custody of my kids for at least the next 6 months, so the equipment is going unused.

I am disabled, and am living with my parents. My dad modeled his HT on mine, and he needs a new projector as well. We ended up with a b-stock Epson 6500ub, with a full 2 year warranty. We haven't installed it yet but it's past the return date.

My question is this, being a couple years newer, am I likely to be as happy with the Epson LCD as I was with the Sony SXRD? The Sony is rated about 900 lumens to the Epson's 1600. A fairly light controlled room, shooting onto a Carada 96" 1.0 gain screen.

A screwed up story, I know, but I'd thought I'd seek advise. sorry if this should be in the under $3000 forum.

Impossible to say as convergence variances and other MFR variances between units may be more telling than the differences between those two projectors, but I would say the vw60 has a higher pixel fill and the SDE on the Epson might be more noticeable if you sit very close. I'd probably take the Sony.

Tough call, depending on your needs.

Sony is not as bright for sure, but I find it plenty bright for my HP2.8 while you have the 1.0. I like Sony's color over Epson in general but I never owned the 6500ub. However I did have an old 400 (720p), not comparing favorably to my Sony hs60. The UB also has better contrast but the iris might be noisy. I've not gone back to LCD picture and stick only to LCoS like JVC or Sony, being a movie buff not gaming or sports as much.

The other thing going for you is the Epson's longer warranty but Sony should have a better lens.

BTW, FWIW Art preferred the Epson.

One other thing to add. The Sony is much quieter than the Epson. May not matter, but if the projector is mounted close to you it might make a difference.

I've never had the chance to get the Sony isf calibrated, and it's always had this green tinge I've never been able to correct. (I know Jason at AVS has said that the Sony's color needs a lot of help out of the box.) It sure looked better in my theater! Kind of like a sports car next to a Volvo.
