New setup

Ok I am new to polk world and just received part 1 (cs1 center speaker) of my new surround sound.....replacing old KLH satellite speakers. I am ordering Monitor 60's this week and possibly monitor 30s also. Any opinions would be appreciated. I think I am going to use 16Ga wire. And was wondering if my Kenwood VR-707 is still going to be ok with my very near future setup?? 100 watts per channel

You should be fine. I run MonitorII60s/CS20/R50s/R150s off a 75 WPC 7.1 receiver (Onkyo TX-SR505) with no trouble at all. I have them all set to "small", and the crossover set to 80hz on the receiver (Bic F12 sub). You'll need a sub if you don't have one. I started with all channels flat at "0", then bumped the center to +3 and surrounds to +2. Works for my room; YMMV.

your setup will be fine, but you will want to add a powered subwoofer for the LFE (low frequency effects) channel. Amazon has the BIC F-12 on sale now (2/8/12)

my preference would be the front towers and sub first, then the surrounds when the budget allows (or Newegg has another great sale)

+1

Use your old KLH speakers for the rears until you can afford that upgrade later on. The BIC-F12 will add more to the HT experience.

You might end up waiting a long time

The best value for under $200 is the Bic F12

Your receiver will work though its alittle dated. The manual can be found here

Until you get a subwoofer you will have the Front set as Front LRG and the rest of the speakers to "... NML". When you get a center change the Monitor 60's to Front NML

Also given your receiver has no auto calibration might want to pick up an SPL meter from RadioShack!

The Bic F12 is $188 at Amazon.

!6 gauge wire is OK to 30 feet; past that use 14 gauge.

Sounds good except for the center. You should get the CS20 IMO. It will be better balanced relative to the Monitor 60s. It is a mistake to cheap out on the center speaker. You could also save some money by using the Monitor 50s for the front; with a subwoofer the slight difference is not going to be significant.

The PSW505 has been discontinued for over 6 months now, and the chance of getting any that are left for under $300 is pretty small. If you want it, I suggest you bite the bullet and spend $300.

Ok I think I know what I am ordering now. Monitor 50s for the front, monitor 30s for the surround and bic f12 for my sub. I already have the cs1 for my center. What do you guys think?

Not a bad set-up

Might want to look at newegg.com for the Monitor Series ii sales to get the biggest bang for your buck!

Yep. Seems worth the little extra for the Monitor 60s over the 50s at the moment. The cheery finish 60s (promo code EMCNHNC28) are only $10 more each than the 50s through 2/13.

Been back and forth from 50s and 60s. One review says 50s and a good sub the next one says 60s. HA don't know. And new egg is where I have been looking/buying

Did you look into this? If they are only $20/more then definitely go for the 60's. At $80/more I don't know. Look at newegg over the weekend...Also do a search for promo codes...

At the monitor 60 sale price of $100 per speaker it's worth spending the extra doe IMHO

To the OP I am not sure where you are looking to buy from but you might want to hold out for a newegg.com sale
