Magnavox MDR-513H/F7 ??

Hi, for the past 4 years I have had a Sony RDR-VX555 dvd recorder that I used DVD RWs to record programs from my DirecTV box using an S video and RCA audio cables in the line in , and it has stopped reading discs and just says disc error

What would you guys recommend I should get as my replacement?

I saw the Magnavox MDR-513H/F7 at Walmart online and I was wondering if I could record programs from my DirecTV box by using the same line in method.
Also does it block any DirecTV programs.
My Sony RDR-VX555 only blocked two programs from DirecTV in 4 years.

I have been out of the dvd recording loop for a few years and I see it had dried up for various reasons.

I'd think it would be a perfect replacement for your aging Sony. AFA copy protection, knowing Sony I don't believe the Magnavox would be any more sensitive, if anything better.
If you ever need a filter and your device has unused component outputs, a <$50 component to S-video converter from Monoprice is your cheapest option.

If your Sony only blocked two programs in four years, you got one of the better Sonys, knowing how gunshy they tend to be over CP.

I'd be shocked if the Magnavox blocked any more.
