Yamaha center channel speakers?

I'm currently using the Yamaha NS-SP1800BL 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System. It fits my needs for now, but I'm thinking of upgrading the center channel speaker. I don't know much about speakers. So hopefully someone can give me some insight.

I'm thinking of upgrading to the NS-C210. Will it be a noticeable upgrade over my current center channel from the NS-SP1800? Or are the differences fairly subtle? Will it pair well with the other speakers?

I'm also looking at the Yamaha NS-P150. It's a 3-speaker package that's designed to pair with two floorstanding speakers. Would those two surround speakers work fine as Front L/R? Or are they just designed for back surround sound? Would this center channel be better than (or equal to) the NS-C210?

NS-SP1800 - http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio...ck/?mode=model
NS-C210 - http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio..._u/?mode=model
NS-P150 - http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio...pn/?mode=model

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If you are going to upgrade your center speaker, you'll need to match it with your right and left speaker as well. It is important to have your front three speakers match in both brand and model.

those other two centers have dual 3 1/8" or 3 1/4" woofers so they aren't a whole lot larger than your current 2.5" woofers. How much room do you have for a center speaker? I'm you're going to spend money, get somethng much larger.

And like was said above you'll probably need to upgrade your main speakers too.

So the NS-C210 won't match with the NS-SP1800BL speakers I'm currently using?

Would the NS-P150 set work well for Center, Front Left & Front Right? Or are those two speakers just for Back Surround?

So I won't get any noticeable improvement going from 2.5" to 3.25"?

I was originally looking at the Polk CS10. But there's two problems with that.

First, is the cost. I'd have to pair it with Polk speakers for Front L/R. And I'd need speaker stands since those larger Polks won't fit on my TV stand. So I'm looking at around $300-$400 total.

And second is the size. I've only got about 6-inches of clearance directly below my TV, and the CS10 would block the remote control signal. I guess you can invert the Polk. So I can probably put it on the floor and tilt it upwards. I was kinda hoping for something that would fit directly under my TV.

Anyone have suggestions for a Center + Fronts set-up for around $300 or less with a center channel that's not higher than 6-inches?

yes there would be a small improvement going from 2.5" driver to 3.25". Your current center may go down to 150hz and 3.5" drivers may go down to 120hz.

You could get 3 NHT Superzero 2.0 bookshelf speakers for $99 each.

Lay one on its side for a center channel and it'll only be 5.5" tall.

I was going to recommend the Cambridge Audio S50 center and S30 bookshelf until I saw your $300 budget.

Thanks for the info. I might get those Cambridge Audios if I can find a good price.

You can always build a TV riser, thats what I did to raise my TV up to put my center under my TV. $20 of wood and screws with about an hour of work.

So you would come in around $200 with tv riser, Polk CS1 series ii center and Polk Monitor 30's Series ii

That's a good idea. But I've got the TV mounted on a Walker Edison 4-in-1. And I really don't want to change that up.

I think I might be able to invert the Polk CS1 and fit it on the bottom shelf. I also might be able to fit the Polk CS10 directly under my TV. I lined up a box at exactly 6 1/2 inches and I was able to use the remote. So if the listed measurements of the CS10 are correct, that's an option.

Hello,

I am starting a Home Theater in my condo and was given 2 yamaha bookshelf NS 5290 speakers that I planned on using as my Front L & R (not enough space for tower speakers).

Any idea for a good center speaker that would match this? this is an older model an was not able to find online what center speaker would match. The speakers are still in good quality and would like to keep them if possible (considering the polk audio OWM 3 for my rear surrounds).

open to suggestions - appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance.
