Speakers for Pioneer 1021

Have bot pioneer 1021 at best buy/will return & get from Newegg by 2/9 to save $100. I will now need to get speakers for it, I will be hooking it to 50" panasonic plasma. I own a pair of bose 501 series 5, just sitting in basement.
I have read some other threads on speakers & will ask again for myself.
Should I try to use my 501s? The room is 22 by 13 with a cathedral half sloop ceiling. Tv in corner. I can spend up to $1800 if really needed, but had not planned this hi. Mainly using for TV use, some Ipad listening. I have looked a little at MLt-2 package (looks ok) & Pionner Sp c21 (don't like Dimensions really). I am not looking for any monster sizer speakers.

Tanks, Barney

Barney, you could use the 501's, the price is definitely right. They require a lot of customization to sound right, and you may need an amp, since by all accounts they are power hungry. The 1021 doesn't have pre-outs, so that's out, so you probably would need to upgrade the 1021 and buy an amp.

I'd suggest saving those for a 2.1 setup for music if you want to do that. The room is large, for TV and IPad (MP3, WMA, FLAC?) listening, you still need to fill that room.

There are several good alternatives for good HT watching / listening with the 1021. Given that you can spend up to 1800, you have some good alternatives.

Left to my own devices (since I'm and Energy guy) I'd take this bundle from Vanns with the Energy RC-70's / RC-LCR / RC-10's and a Klipsch sub. If you dump the sub, talk to them and tell them you want only the 5.0, you'll save some money and have enough left for a very good sub (Rythmik, Hsu, etc?). But that's me and it does drop some towers in your room.

Given the room and what you want to do, I'm sure others will have equally good recommendations, but I'd advise you to reconsider towers, or some good sized monitors (Pro?), since they'll give you the best experience. Good luck.
