Dish Network VIP211k & OTA reception

Hello everyone,

I recently terminated my service with DishNetwork and was only asked to return one of my two Dish receivers. So I now have a Vip211k which I would like to use for my Panasonic plasma monitor since it doesn't have a built-in tuner.

Would I be able to use the 211k as an OTA tuner for my Panny plasma even though I no longer have Dish service?

Thanks!

I am not sure about the 211k but some of the dish receivers will keep getting over the air stations. They still need to be connected to a dish getting the satellite signal. You also don't get any guide data.

If you've already terminated service, try it.

Looks like a no-go guys. As soon as I turn the receiver on, it tries to establish a satellite connection. I can't seem to get it to leave that "screen".

Maybe I can sell this guy on fee-bay and pick up a Channel Master instead...

once you have a satellite connection it will get past that screen and the OTA should work. You wouldnt have any guide info but it still would work.

Do you still have the dish connected?

Yes the dish is still up on my roof with the wiring intact. But i have returned the module (attached to the dish) that receives the satellite signal and feeds it to STB receiver. So when i turn it on, the 211k stays in the 'acquiring satellite' screen with now way to cancel it...or IS there?

?

Because you returned the module that receives the sat signal, the receiver is not seeing the signal it needs to work; it has to be connected to a functioning dish.

The only solution is to get another Dish Network LNB unit, which will depend on what dish you have on the roof.

If you hit the guide button does it kick out of that?
