In-Ceiling Speakers and Insulation

I am about to install in-celing rear surround speakers, currently there is blown insulation in the attack. After putting the speakers in, should I push the insulation back over the back of the speaker or just leave it?

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

Build a box to put around it since you have attic access. Should get better response from the speaker and then you can just pile the insulation on top of the box.

I think that is what I will end up doing. In the meantime, would it be ok to get R11 insulation and lay it over the back?

I don't see an issue doing that but I personally wouldn't want to go up in my attic anymore times than I had to. I think it would probably be fine until you got around to building boxes. Unless that is going to be awhile then you might do it just to keep cool air from finding it's way in.

Wonder if Foam Speaker baffles from the car audio would work just as well. Would be a lot less time consuming than building a box

Put the insulation back as much as possible to recover the area. It's fine buried in the insulation. If you can put a box around it, that's certainly not a bad idea, but that's for performance, not to keep the insulation happy...
