I got a Samsung 3d television this past black Friday, now I'm looking for surround sound. I have 1000 dollar budget. I need everything with the rears being in ceilings. Any input would be well appreciated.

How big is your room?

What do you listen to such as movies, music, games, etc and how much of each?

I assume by $1000 for everything you mean receiver, speakers and sub combined.

Thanks.

The room is 17 x 20. It will be mostly for movies and some music, and yes everything. Receiver, front floor speakers, sub, center and in ceiling rears. I might be able to stretch the budget a bit if need be. Thx

You can start with the exact setup I have. Bump your budget $275 and you can get full 5.1 if you already have a receiver.

Rhythmik FV12 sub, Arx A1 L&R, Arx A2 center. These sound amazing.

If you don't have a receiver that will change things a bit. If you need a receiver and you still want towers in your front stage, the Polk M60s and 70s are recommended. Also, Jamo makes towers as well. Then you can get the Polk 40s for rears and a CS2 or CS1 for your center. If you were to purchase the M60s or 70s, I would recommend the CS2. Newegg usually has all of this on sale sooner or later.

I guess we will need to know exactly all that you would need or want. The deciding factor for me is the receiver, because it will cost about $300 new to get your foot in the door with a good receiver; however, you can get the same priced ones refur'd for around $225-250.

Denon 1612 refur'd for $250 shipped.
Polk M60 for $130 shipped each. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882290206
Polk M40 for $140 shipped http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882290202
Polk CS2 for $130 shipped http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882290212
Premier Accoustic PA-120 $259 shipped http://www.amazon.com/Premier-Acoust...9010561&sr=8-1

Total $1039. That was quick and dirty pricing. A little out of your budget, but will get you a nice little setup to start with. BIC also makes subs a bit cheaper than the PA-120. If you doubled your budget, you could really go crazy, but that is a lot of money to throw around. I have about $1300 in just my audio and it's only 3.1.

This isn't the end to be all, but it works within your budget, and gives you 5.1 out the gate.

I do need a receiver. And I could stretch to 1500-1800 (I'll just have to tell my girl it only cost a 1000) I'm looking for the best possible sound in that price range. Thanks for all the info

There's people on here that have more knowledge than myself. For $1500-1800, there's A LOT, and I do mean A LOT, of options!

At that budget range, put $300 to $400 into your receiver. I like the Denon 1612, too (supposedly it can be had new for around $300). Good reviews, and it has Audyssey MultiEQ room correction software which can automagically optimize the sound of your setup for your room, a feature that's hard to find at this price point.

Get one of the 12" ID subs such as the Epik Legend, HSU VTF-2 MK3, or the Rythmik FV12 that weezerfan84 recommended--these are huge values over anything you can get in a brick and mortar store.

Then the rest of your budget into speakers.

I recommend looking at used gear for the best bang for your buck. However, Audiogon has had a negative backlash after their website redesign, but you could still keep an eye on it.

i agree 100% with getting a good sub as mentioned. "imo" any set of speakers mentioned were it polks, jbl, bic, infinity, jamo, klipsch or fifty other brands mentioned in your budget will sound good in "your" home. there is no "better" sounding speaker in this budget just better price. but the one thing you will notice is the sound coming from a sub.if you choose a cheap version you will only get muddy boom box sound which imo ruins the rest of the sound.a good sub just makes everything come together. just my 2 cents and good luck

Yeah, my FV12 blends so well with my speakers. Most of the time I feel the base is coming from my bookshelves and center, not my sub. I don't hear my sub like I did with my Martin Logan 8".
