I saw this unit this weekend at a Magnolia. I was blown away. To be fair it's literally the first time I;ve had a chance to see a projector in a dedicated room set-up properly (I assume!). It was as good or nearly as good as my G10 54". I'm sold.

It does have me wondering though if there is something less expensive with the same picture but without 3D, which I don't care about.

JVC RS45 from AVS with 3D as a bonus !

The Sony is a well rounded projector. It is bright, does a good job with motion. Does an excellent job with 2D and does a good job with 3D. Give us a call and we can discuss your choices.

Well, I can probably swing the $3k (barely) for the Sony but I will need a screen and various other odds n ends. Thought I'd better check to see I wasn't over paying for something that could be equaled for $2k, etc.

If you don't need 3D, I would say the JVC-RS45 would be the best 2D projector for under $3K. Better than even the Sony for movies. Under $2K, I would recommend the Epson 8700 if you can still find a new one.

Is this projector exclusively for movies, or will you be watching sports, gaming, etc? There is also the Epson 5010 that is just under $2700, but you may not need the 3D aspect.

Strictly movies. We'll use the plasma for everything else.

I would talk to AVS about pricing on the JVC RS-45 then. I don't think any projcetor can beat it under $3K for 2D movies.
