For the curved cabinet guys

One of the regulars over at PE came up with this. For guys doing multiple builds, or even a showcase one off it's a real time saver. I bet P.I. could use one!

Did anyone notice a price?

Doh! Found it. $677 is too much for this DIY guy.

PassingInterest would probably build his own just to wow us with his DIY kung fu!

i've been thinking about this, but wouldn't a jig cut out of 3-4 two-by's clamped/strapped do the same thing?

Erich knows me so well, it's scary!
Watch for my upcoming DIY Tambour Press build. It will be inside a Curved Cabinet build thread.

Possibly. Depending on how much the workpieces resist bending, it may prove to be a bit difficult to keep things aligned while ratcheting the straps or otherwise applying pressure. Plus, you will need more/thinner-than-1.5" thick boards to follow some curves, again it depends on the flexibility of the workpieces being curved.

i was thinking 1.5" wide x whatever height will cover the bend, small be might need 2x6", while very large bend might need 2x12". 3-4 of them on the laminated ply in the curvomatic videos would seem just fine.

I just noticed your thread and thought I could help clear up some points for you. The lowest price kit from Curvomatic (me that is) is actually the 500-750mm extending kit which with the 20% discount I'm offering to forum members can be yours delivered anywhere in North America for $376 U.S. It is not the cheapest solution either. As I've mentioned on the other thread the hollow systems work very well too. This is a set up that has gaps. On my site you can see the 800mm hollow kit which uses 800mm lengths and 200mm lengths. It surprised me initially that this even worked at all, but believe me it works just fine and does not produce a noticeably different panel to the solid kit. It has surprised me more with recent experiments into super hollow kits which I have tested with up to five gaps and just 100mm short lengths instead of 200mm pieces. You can buy the individual pieces of extrusion and make up any kit that you like. The set up with five gaps works just as well in most ways as the wooden mock ups I made when developing this system but works out better in terms of ripple between formers, which is the main problem with wooden versions of the system. It is less than 2 fifths of the price of the solid kits. I'm going to get some info onto the site asap to explain these recent developments. Wooden versions do not have the versatility of the extrusions and you will find that each different panel you want to make will need modifications to be made to the widths of the top and bottom sections in order for the system to run sweetly. With the extrusions you simply add or remove lengths to make the correct size for you work. You will also find that the wooden versions are not that cheap when all things are considered, especially as you will find yourself making numerous versions to get it working half as well as my system. Trust me I've been there, my workshop is littered with different size wooden versions made to cope with the full range of cabinetry problems! If you need to make something bigger next time you use Curvomatic you just buy a few more lengths or simply reconfigure what you have with a few extra gaps.
You will succeed with DIY versions of Curvomatic but you may not save any money, especially if you value your time!
