Also we could consider the 3 Epsons together vs 2 Optomas together vs Acer to declare the winner

I only picked the new generation of budget PJ's that came out in 2011 and I laid my hands on all 3 of them HD33, 3010 and 9500 and settled for 3010 and cant be happier at this price.

If you are a "defector" like me, please post a message and state which PJ you defected from and why .

I defected from HD33/9500 because I liked 3010's vibrant colors, "LCD film like look" that was easy on my eyes, amazing 3D brightness and colors, artifact free SD-DVD images, world famous Epson warranty and lowest cost. Ghosting is a non-issue if you get Monster glasses or PS3 glasses, although majority don't see it in the first place with Epson glasses.

First had the 3010 for a week. Noticed digital noise on panning shots, and sde. Guessing it was because my seating distance is pretty close, but wasn't very happy regardless. I also had some smearing in fast scenes. 3D was OK, some ghosting. The auto iris was annoying and loud, but black level suffered without it.

Now with the hd33 and all the above issues are gone. Cleaner picture, more vibrant, and 3d is perfect. Most importantly for me the image noise, sde, and iris issue. I may have had a bad 3010, but got the hd33 for a few hundred less anyways, so no desire to try again.

Why would you have 3 epson projectors in this budget category? 1500-2500-4000 are pretty wild price swings compared to the Optomas and the Acer. Seems like you want to stack the deck a little doesn't it?

I have an epson 3010. Bought the optoma gt750 before, but i had issues with the rf glasses. Switched to epson 3010 and I am very glad I did. I like the 3d image better on the epson than the optoma and of course 2d as well.

Is there really much difference between the HD33 and HD3300? Biggest difference I see is one has a longer warranty. Besides the HD3300 isn't high end. The 8300 is their top model.
The HD33 and HD3300 should basically be in the same group. Looks like the Optoma is leading the way in your poll solidly.

No they are not, I was looking at paying $300 more for hd3300 including state tax....Even of you add them, the lead is reflecting the early release date over other two....

I would have to agree with you on that. Only one place sells the hd3300, and it's some place in Canada and for around 1800. So Optoma hd33/3300 should be grouped as ONE model and it won hands down, 26 percent to 17 percent. It's not the result falafala was looking for. That is why it's not as exciting as he stated above.

Now what would be helpful to the rest of us watching is, why did you pick the one you did? You are all owners that voted. Why did you buy your PJ and are you satisfied? You had to go through the research, what made you BUY it over the others.

First optoma had a several months lead time and I bet 75 is not a big sample size as we know from sheer number of people who contributed to various threads....let's see how things go as more owners vote

But seriously I was not counting on 3010 to win....I was genuinely curious what the distribution of these new class of PJ that have brought in a game changing, high quality 3d tech to the masses.

Also most people who bought these are interested in 3d and it sounded interesting to know what the distribution across technologies is....from that angle, one could argue that Epson has upper hand across all models....or one could say LCD is equally preferred to DLP in 3d....which is significant !

More importantly, I was hoping this thread brings everyone together for fun!

I have the Optoma HD3300. I chose it for the following reasons:

1. DLP - sharp, pop, no cleaning of filters, and I'm not sensitive to rainbows (a biggie for some)
2. Warranty - 3 year warranty is great as projectors, from my experience, really don't stand the test of time.
3. No ghosting/crosstalk in 3D.
4. This is, as far as I know, the least expensive projector (well, apart from the HD33) that has support for an anamorphic lens. To add to this, the anamorphic support also works in 3D mode. Nothing like watching a 3D cinemascope flick!

Now, there is still definitely room for improvement. 3D is great, but in fast moving scenes, things get messy (and somewhat nauseating). I think Mitsubishi is on the right track with having much faster shutter speeds on their glasses (but $215 a pop?). Also, they have some sort of interpolation in 3D mode for fast moving scenes. I don't have the coin to sport that kind of projector, but I'm pretty sure that it significantly trumps the 33/3300.

For some reason you have NO PROBLEM putting an 1,600 hundred dollar optoma with 2 other models that cost over 1,000 dollars more.
Bro, look online at the optoma hd 33 and hd3300 and epson 3010 and 3010e PRICES and you see they both are in same price range. LOOK! I did!

It was pointed out to you repeatedly and yet you do nothing. To be fair , you didn't list the epson 3010e in same place where you put optoma hd3300.
You didn't even list it. Why? because if you did , some would have picked it and the 3010 would have had lower percentage. Why play games.

you get your facts right....HD33 is not same as HD3300 in the US

where in the US you are you getting HD3300 for 1600 ? AVS had the best price on it when i was considering buying it, which was 500$ more expensive if i had to shell out money for 2 pairs of glasses and state tax

And in canada , seems like they would come down in price since it says call to get quote (1800). Canada and USA currency is pretty much equal maybe 99cents to 100cents.
Now if only 1 place in USA had it when you were looking for it, you didn't think that maybe since NO COMPETITION, they jacked up the price. Look on amazon, there is wide range on the optoma hd33 and epson 3010 and if ONLY one place in whole country sold it. You can bet the price would be VERY inflated. Straighten out your poll bro. Don't continue to put the "nowhere to be bought optoma hd3300 in USA" in the same place as 2,699-over 3,000 dollar place.
At least show, you can bend a little. Since it is your poll. make is seem like you can accept SOME input. ok?

dont accuse me of rigging it. I didnt think so convoluted in the first place ! I knew I would be missing some models, but unfortunately the AVS forums do NOT allow you to edit the poll once it started. Thats why I created the "other" category and requested voters to post what other model they have...also I made it clear that people should only vote for the exact model they own...I cannot control if they treat 3010e as 3010.

But I think you are taking this too seriously ? Suggestion: get one of the PJ's and enjoy.

Looks like Optoma took you for a ride....HD3300 in the US is an upgraded model with 3 year warranty and ISF controls and black case compared to HD33....just to confuse people like you, Optoma decided to call HD33 as HD3300 outside US !

If I were in the market for a PJ, I would look for most popular and cheapest PJ out there.....from that perspective combining HD33 and HD3300 is unfair owing to significant price difference.....at one point 3010 was selling for $1350 on Amazon which would make it 700$ chepaer than HD3300 (Hint: I did this math myself when I was debating going to HD3300 vs 3010 after I returned HD33)....but just to keep your ego happy, I can call HD3300 as a Mid End PJ and request all 3010e owner not to pick 3010 to unduly bias the poll. I already updated the 100 count poll. Sounds good ?
