Wide Vs High

Hi folks

I guess this has been asked someplace in the many posts but my search has drawn blank so i hope someone will help please.

I have an Onkyo TX809 this was until today set up as 5.1 in the Onkyo forum a suggestion was that placement of wides would be a good plan and i tried this and i like it very much. they are now installed.

The room is only 14 foot by 12 foot and the main speakes are firing over the width,

So my qstn is my amp can only handle 7.1 if i added high speakers when would you imagine i would find myself turning them on instead of the wides.

I sort of wish now i had bought the Tx1009 lol

Many thanks

Where is your seating position in relation the the walls and screen?

Where are your current speakers located?

Hi

Tv Plasma 50'' offset on the 14 foot wall by about 1 foot.

Kef iq7 mains about 8 feet apart spaced even ether side of TV

Wides on the slightly smaller sized wall in the corner about 4 foot off the floor on the wider side out from corner about 1 foot thease are kef iq10

Rears are from the kef 3005 egg family mounted on the side wall 9 inches from rear wall at about 4 foot off floor.

Centre is under the TV soon to be a kef iq6c

Main seat is direct oposite the centre speaker about 1 foot from back wall.

Update re amp. The onkyo 809 is failing hdmi and i have ordered an onkyo 1009 so i now have the option of 9.2, maybe if you had a moment you could advise also if back surrounds being so close to the chairs would have any advantage

Thank you for the reply
