70 inch or 55 inch?

Hey I have been back and forth debating on whether to get the 70 inch LC-70LE733U Sharp or the UN46D6450UFXZA Samsung. Price doesn't really matter because I can get both for unbelievable prices($1200 for the Samsung and $1600 for the Sharp). I know the Samsung is 3d and has a 480hz refresh rate. Which make for a much better picture, but the sharp is so big. I cant make a decision. The sharp has a 240 hz refresh rate. I currently have a 52 inch Samsung and wanted to get a 60 inch. But these deals are too good to pass up. Let me know what you think to help me out thanks.

Get the 70" Sharp. If you want large, get it.

When I read the title I was like 70"! are you stupid? Go big or go home!... BUT! if you really think the 55" looks that much better what would you rather look at? Are you really going to be far enough away that you will want the 70"? maybe you will be in the kitchen and want to watch it where ever it is, living room ect. Or you have a huge home theater or something but if your not going to be 20+ feet from the TV the 55" will probably look better and I would go with that.

Yeah you might be right 55 is still bigger then what I have currently. It's just such a good deal for the 70. I guess i'll sleep on it....

I always recommend the largest screen that fits your viewing area. There are lots of calculations on this site for figuring it out and they are quite accurate.
Whenever my friends or relatives ask me I say "you just can't get a screen big enough". I now have the largest screen that met my primary objective, which was to get plasma. I wanted the rich color in low light look of a plasma so I looked at 63 and 65 inch versions. I liked them both, but with virtually no difference in features or look I went with the 65.
Maybe you can do some future planning and figure out which one could be used elsewhere in the home in the future?
Use the 70 for a few years then move to the basement for the kids or something.

Did you misquote the model number?
Isn't that a 46" Samsung?

Why go from 52" to 46"

right now about 9 to 10 feet

I'd go for the 70" so long as it'll fit your room - much better sense of immersion when watching movies. You get a 25° viewing angle with a 55" TV @ 9 feet, which is below the SMPTE recommended 30° (THX recommends 36°).

I think you'll notice the size of the 70" display much more than you'll notice any better picture quality in the 55". Obvious difference vs subtle difference. Giving up 3D might hurt, but with an active shutter LCD, I'd be skeptical of the quality unless I read a review that said it's great.
