Well. A buddy of mine had a 50" Vizio last over 6 years. My 7 month old Samsung plasma is also being serviced soon, I hope. It has a red corner, and a grey rain like look through the center of the screen. Plasma's should last 3 or more years, I'd say. But with my current TV, I'm not so sure it'll last 1.

I've been fighting with Samsung for a while not to have them service my TV. It's a brutally long story, and it's ongoing. 5 service requests and 3 service centers later, and I'm supposed to have a tech come out tonight to troubleshoot, again. Ha.

Yeah, I also got the Best Buy replacement plan. If my TV breaks again before the warranty is up, I'll ask for a refund rather than a replacement. Ha, I'm starting to look at panny's too.

Mine is 12 months for both. I got the Best Buy warranty simply because of the complaints about Samsung's warranty and the lack of service centers in my town. Hopefully there are more service centers in your area, there most likely are.

I'm pretty sure my TV came from the factory with the issues that I am having. I just never noticed it until recently, and realized that it wasn't normal. I think it's a quality control issue, rather than a lack of quality parts. Samsung seems to do very poor quality testing before shipping their products for sale. Once they replace your panel, you should be able to go a few years at the least.

My 50" Panasonic is 6.5 years old and still looks amazing. No buzzing either.

Over 8 years now on my one Panny plasma and still looks great and no buzzing. I have 3 others ranging from 2 years old to 6 months old.

I've had my 65" Panny S1 plasma for a little over 2 years and aside from a slight bit of burn in (I watch way too much Sportscenter) it's been running like a champ. I hope to have it as my primary set for another 5 years. I also have a Sony 40" LED and while it looks good the picture quality does not compare to the Plasma.

Panasonic 58 inch PZ700U. I have had it slightly over 4 years and no problems. No stuck pixels, no buzzing, no green or purple snakes (some people thougth they had this problem.) It is still edge to edge breathtaking picture ( I did have it prof. calibrated). It gets warm when in use but not the "oven" some were talking about back in the day. The speakers were rattling until I shut them down and set up a HT 5.1 surround system.

The chance of suffering a failure with a Panasonic is only a few percent lower than with a Samsung so there's not really anything to be gained by switching to a Panasonic. If you like the Samsung D550, just get it repaired under warranty.

I own 3 and I've never had one break. I have owned them 6 years, 3 years, and 2 months (respectively) and all work just as well today as when I purchased them. They are all Panasonics.

My 42G10 was great from 2009 till just last month.. another reason to get a 55Gt30
the 42g10 had rising blacks and that was it. it still runs ok today. no issues. just relegated to the guest room

hmmm. I guess I just bought a Lemon. Hopefully a new panel fixes both my issues
post #18 of 36
My Pioneer Elite has been chugging along for about 5+ years now without an issue. Older Panasonic is about 3 years old and still going strong. My GT30 is only about 2 months now but so far so good.

have a 10yr old pioneer pdpxxx, forgot the exact model, still running strong with at least 6-10 hrs being on everyday. hope the new 65st30, that just got delivered today, will serve me this well.

95% to 98% of all plasma owners have had zero problems with their sets, so knowing how long people's plasmas have lasted won't give you any useful data. Mine are 7years, 5 years, and 3 years old and have been problem-free, but i don't think for a minute that one of them won't develop a problem. Modern electronics have a small failure rate and nobody and no brand is immune.

lol....so i got screwed with a 2-5% lemon better now then when warranty is up eh?

but what about the buzzing? is that normal. if your head is facing center of TV more then 6' away you can hear LOUD buzzing. When standing up or below you cant or close to it you cant.

its Center of TV and far away I can hear it, sadly in my sitting position
post #22 of 36
If you cant heat the buzzing when theirs content being played you should be fine. The buzzing on my panel could be heard from 12 feet away with my AVR set to -10

Well I was watching a movie thats very quiet throughout and heard it the ENTIRE time.

the weird thing is you have to be 6 feet away and center of TV before you can hear it. You cant hear it closer then that.
You could call it a lemon. But really it is just a matter of quality control. Very few bad TV's slip through their QC testing, and we just happen to have gotten some. No big deal really, once they replace the panel it should be fine.

If they replace panel, can that fix buzzing too?
my parents old Panasonic that gets at least 2-3 hours/day and it's almost 8 years old, no problems.
It might. Seems to me that the two problems started up at the same time. Chances are it's just a bad panel, and replacing it would do the trick. If the tech's don't think the panel replacement will solve all your problems, then they may just replace the whole set.
