i am wondering what I should do next in my quest to fix the problems why my receiver.
Let's start off with what has happened, the issues, and what I have done.
Had everything setup, running from the living room into a closet. Biggest PITA but worth it. Well black Friday 2010 I got a new led backlit vizio. Thing is sharp and I love it. I hook that up, test everything and it seemingly works fine. But had not tested the game HDMI. Well my friend hook up his PS3 two months later to watch a blueray and it won't work. It just keep flipping on and off hdmi as far as the receiver is concerned. Seems like a handshake issue. I also notice the cable box when the receiver just turns on seems to be vibrating the picture is the best way to describe it. Its only noticeable if you're on top of it. When the receiver warms this goes away.
Early spring I had a friend come over, and showed him he could hook up his notebooks hdmi to the game port on the wall and do whatever with the system. It did not work with the PS3 but everything else seemed fine. So he used my PC, and his and all was good. Two weeks later when he stops by again his notebook is getting choppy hdmi like the ps3 and can no longer be used. But my PC still worked.
Well skip to late summer 2011 I get a new blue-ray player. hook it up and it pops over just fine. Well 2 weeks later it starts showing inverted colors and lines at the boot up of the receiver. When it started it would only take a min or so to clear up. I started to figure bad cables where at fault.
So I took everything out, and replaced all the cable and made a whole new media shelf in the closet. This cleared everything up for I think a total of 2 days. So I started double checking everything, and replaced the cable behind the tv as it had a bad angle on it and stretched. This cleared up the problem for a day and then it was back. Thinking it kept getting better with HDMI improvement I figure it had to be a line issue. So I waited.
Well close to x-mas my new HDMI cable comes in to replace the one in the attic. This time I bought relief cable so it didn't have to make any hard bends. I figured I destroyed the one in the attic even though it was cl2 rated flat hdmi cable. Seeing how it was cold it was gonna have to wait for spring.
This past month has been a odd one for my receiver. It has plain turned on with 0 sound. You didn't even here it click in the receiver as normal and it did not display "dialog normal". I turned it off and on several times with no go. Finely pulled the plug, left it off for the night and when I plug it in it came on. About a week after that I was listening and the sound just cut out. Had to do the same thing. But this is the first the sound ever cut out while listening.
About a week after that I was listening and then a huge giant pop through all the speakers and the sound was dead. Ahh crud... So I go to the closet, all look normal but the standby light is blinking. Apparently it went into protection mode. I turn it off, and turned it on (after looks at speakers, and the back of the unit) and everything was "normal" again. As normal as this has been that is.
So this weekend I tear everything down, get banana jack for the back just to make sure and hook it up. I even get the pure power for it as well, and install the new HDMI with the relief cords in the attic. Zip notta thing. Back to video with no sound, so I pull the plug and put it back for a no go. Did this for a couple of hours and then it works.
I check the picture is it is much cleaner and looks better. Someone even commented on what I changed, without me telling them. So something was funky or bad quality about the old hdmi cable. I cold boot up the receiver and blue-ray player the next morning and it still all gabled up at first but calms down (takes around 10 mins now). Also my notebook no longer works via HDMI.
So is the receiver on its last breath, or should I look elsewhere? Could the TV be even an issue at all since it is the only thing I have not eliminated? Could the HDMI keystones be an issue?
Please let me know thoughts or opinions. If you need me to answer anything in detail, just ask.
