Just received my ARX speakers!

Only bad thing is my EX sub is still on back order and I can't hook up the speakers yet because I don't have the wires routed yet in my room. I got a pair of A3, a pair of A1 and a A2. I cannot believe how solid these speakers feel. Just the A2 (center) is crazy big and heavy. I'm like a kid in a candy store!

Congrats! I'm a few weeks in on my A1/A2 combo and I'm enjoying them immensely; I'm sure you will too.

I'm still in limbo waiting for the A5 you need to post up pics, or maybe an unboxing box for me to drool over!

Now I'm trying to figure out how to mount the center speaker. Or should I get a small platform for it?
Really need to see what your setup looks like to advise on that.

I had a stand built around the speaker, so I could mount my tv on top. A co worker built it with cheap wood, I sanded it, and then painted it gloss black. It's not something you will find in a nice furniture store, but for cheap, it got the job done. I'll post a picture up in a little bit.

Here's the image of my stand and setup currently.

The dimensions of the stand are something like 26" wide x 12" deep x 9" tall.

Yeah that would probably help if I told you my setup. I'm putting a electric tension projector screen, with black curtains behind it because there is a window right there. Can't really mount this beast on the wall, especially if there is curtains. Looks like I'm gonna have to find a small stand or something.

I think I have the same cabinet for my center channel.

Cool! I like my Arx A2 and the A1s. I just wish Arx made real rear speakers Waiting for the A5s to be done! The planar tweeter and the split gap motors are really amazing!

Enjoy!

Did you put sand in the A3 to help with the top heavyness?

Yeah it looks like mid summer before Arx will have the A4 surrounds available
I'd like a couple pair of them, the A1s are just so bulky to mount to a wall for surrounds IMO. That and its tough to find a mount that holds them good.

I have an A2. No A3's for me. Wont be getting them, because I want some space up front. Just waiting on the A1b's now. I'll just run 3.1 till they are released.

Mine is a custom build. Roughly $14 in wood and another $10 in 1000 grit sand paper and gloss black paint.

Hell it looks like mid summer for the A5s. I purchased some swan stands from TAI there decent stands except i dropped a banna connecter on them and some how it left a dent in the stands. I will try to use the A1s as side speakers but i would prefer the A4s. I would like to run 7.2 with Arx at some point lol

I had some stands built that are 7" wide x 12" deep. I plan to attach these to the walls using L brackets. You can get something custom made for stands. Lowes sells a thing that spring attaches to the drywall once you drill the hole that are good for something close to 40lbs.

Yeah its crazy how long the A5 is taking. Jon originally had it scheduled for Mid Summer 2010, now its 2nd-3rd quarter 2012. I'm going with the A2s for LCR, I was gonna hold out for the A5s but just not going to wait that long. I wouldn't be surprised if the A4s dont make it this year, same goes for the subs. The A1s are out of stock but the A1b's are due till May (maybe). If anything gets delayed much longer its really going to hurt TAI reputation, big time.
Only problem I have with the A2's is symmetry, since I like to keep the grills on my speakers. The Arx label will be going horizontally instead of vertically. Stupid querk, yes, but it would bother me everytime I looked at them. Other problem would be stands to get since they would be somewhat top heavy.
I'm still holding out hope I can fall into a group buy for the A5's it'll save me some money on the A1b's that can go towards a sub. I'm really not holding my breath on the A4's. I want them but I may spring for something else to get me by.
I wanted to try that too, but I would have a hard time trying to find something that would blend well for tv, music, gaming, and movies. People do it all the time, but I would hate a well balanced front stage and a too bright or too dull rear stage.

I wanted to go cheap with some Polk M30s or M40s, but I was talked out of that. Also, if I'm going to pay $300 for A1b's, I might as well cut off my limit at $200/pair for other speakers.
@Weezerfan, have you looked at the accculine A1 b stocks on TAI? 89 for the pair and should fit in with your system...

To be honest, i have been really considering dropping Arx i like them but A for how cheap they are i wonder how great they really must be? Also i kinda want a company that is more developed, like EMP they offer a nice center and real rear speakers and good front right/left speakers or Axiom... I like them but i dont want to wait till mid summer for the A5 next year for there rear speakers.. Its just to slow for me...

I would like a center with a tweeter dedicated mid and dedicated woofers, real rear speakers and good fronts. The A5s great fronts the A2 good center but i think? Wouldnt it sound better with a mid to divide the sound more? Arx will have one but when two years from now? The A4s next year? The A5s this coming summer? I mean there great but i dont want to wait that long...

Edit!- a friend PMed me and i didnt know that EMP was that bad comparing the core components it does make sense... I just dont know what to do about the rears?... The A1s arnt good rears...

Keep the Arx, its sucks waiting but you have a really nice system. The A1s will work as rears its just they are so large its hard to mount them good.

I own Axiom speakers too, they aren't in the same league as the Arx. Axiom is twice the price for half the performance. I have a pair of M22s, M2s and VP150, well over $1K for them all. The A1 and A2s are far superior to the Axioms in sound, build quality, and looks IMO.

Multiple woofers, mids, tweeters doesn't make a superior speaker. The Arx A2 is an excellent center, $189 for the A2 vs almost $500 for the VP150. The Arx is hands down better. The woofers on the Arx are better quality and the planar tweeters can play lower than a tweeter so no need for a dedicated midrange.

Second person who told me (in this last 2hours) That switching i would regret. I also heard (your the second person) that Axiom speakers arnt that great... The A1s i was going to run as the side speakers with the A4s as the rears. Just i didnt know if i was missing anything becuz that saying "to good to be true" or "you get what you pay for" is in my mind. So i didnt know... Honestly i love the A1s sound. I just thought maybe i was missing something.....

Btw sorry to derail your thread!!!

You can't judge a speaker based on price. Too many factors in play for that. Arx for example doesn't do marketing and doesn't pay to have its products tested or reviewed or awarded some meaning less awarded. Axiom for example buys alot of adverstisement banners on websites and pays to have its speakers tested, reviewed, and awarded. All that is added into the cost of the speaker, even the so called free shipping its in there too.

Very good point... I know way more about computers and (except OCing) generally speaking more expensive=better parts (comparing 560 to a 580 or something).. I dont know near as much about audio. I wish i did. The tech part of it i understand some what but how everything is subjective throws me off.

Computers its straight up. This benched this. Audio there are so many variables ( receiver amps positioning subjective hearing ohms vs sensitivity) ahh its confusing to me lol

But thank you. You convinced me to stay with Arx.

Aus, A1's for the rears and A4's would be on the side

I wasn't sure on this but since I have the swan stands from TAI. There pretty short IMO so putting them behind the couch might not work that well... I thought if I could mount the A4s up a little higher like 2' above the couch 4 feet back it would be better. I could just put the A1s on the sides so you could hear them better since the stands are so short.... Or I could just replace the A1s move them to my computer setup and run 2 sets of A4s.....

I'll start a thread at TAI when I'm ready to purchase them...

Sorry to hijack the thread even further..did I miss something? Jon's last post about this was that he's expecting the A5 in early April.

DIY stands are the way to go, I'm going to build 4 because I don't have a wall on the left side for side surrounds, should end up costing about 20 a stand for me.
